I'm not sure how many of these there have been... but lets start with releases from THIS YEAR and onward...

I'mma start with this one i've had going for the past few days...

Tank_-_now_or_never_album_cover.jpg

I'll just say that above and beyond the stuff released in Rap/Hip-Hop...R&B made a resurgence in 2010... Fantasia, Tank, Monica, Miguel, Jazmine Sullivan, etc...A lot of good music out this year.

To anyone saying 2010 didn't deliever, commit that.

Just because R&B improved from 2009's dismal year, doesn't mean it was on point this year.

Fantasia - Solid album.  Dope lead single, and the album was cool.  Not as dope as her first.  Her voice continues to be >>>>her albums.

Monica - Been a fan since 95.  Very happy this album sold well for her. Lead single was fire.  Love All Over Me (JD Joint) was a beast too.  But the album as a whole was very forgettable.

Jazmine Sullivan - I love this woman, and her voice is the truth.  What happened on the album, I have no idea...because it won't it.  Her first album was much much better.  Same problem as Fantasia this go around.  Voice>>>>album

Miguel - This is the hottest album out of any of the ones you mentioned.

Tank - I haven't listened to this yet, but I've heard good things and I think he's a talented dude, so I'ma check for it for sure

The only great album that dropped was Love Letter by Kells.  And I can't consider a year in which there was only 1 great album, as "delivering."

That being said...R&B is trending back towards that real %#$@, and in 2011, you can bet everything that the realness is about to return.  That ill %#$@ from the 90's...its coming back, just watch.  So if you feel like this year was on point, you're gonna lose your mind next year.

Im amped for Bobby V ... that "words" joint is flames.

2010 was crazy. Monica and Fantasia's albums were fire, I dont know what you're smoking.

DMV, you're slipping homie. Miguel's album was on point but ANY minimal fan of dude knows half the album is YEARS old. Also, that electronica tip ain't TRUE soulful R&B like that. Even you hopefully know that.

I said... out of the albums you listed, Miguel's was the dopest.  I didn't say his album was incredible, because it's not.  It's a good CD...and that's where it stops.  And how did we get to talking about half the album being old and questioning my knowledge of R&B?
grin.gif
Obviously half the songs are old as dirt...that's one of my main criticisms for why I don't think the album is "amazing" like a lot of people are saying.  Once again, the only album I felt was awesome was R.Kelly's.  Monica's joint had 10 tracks, and I can't even listen to all of them.  If you're gonna have 10 tracks...every one of them better be bangers, or at least 8.  And Fantasia's album was solid like I said.  She could sing the alphabet and I would listen...I just think some of her songs still aren't good enough.  Her live performances > her albums.

Anyway, I'm done speaking on all that.  I'll be back in about a week or two to do my part in terms of kicking off R&B for 2011

Tank was real dope, such an amazing voice
Miguel was probably my favorite release this year
Jeremih still gets play time
The Dream was one of my favorites, don't understand all the hate he gets
Monica always been one of my favorite females singers
R. Kelly incredible album, music was perfect
Keri Hilson liked this one much more than her first CD.
Jaheim I played Find My Way Back and Closer daily for months, CD was tough
I don't know if you count Bruno Mars as R&B but his album was great.
Donell Jones CD had some great songs but it had a lot of trash
Ne-Yo was really underrated, it gets a lot of negative attention but I played it all the time. Only one song I didn't like
Avant didn't even hear a single soul talk about this one, album is money
Trey Songz album was decent, had some bangers but his music is just getting boring or something

Anyone adding Trey Songz should be DROPPED with a rifle. Dude is crap. I like his songs but musically, he is fodder.

Don't forget about my boy ALOE BLACK and LEE FIELDS!
