If he's that athletic, he should be able to get well over 1 steal per game...
guys like ai, stephen marbury, westbrook, rondo, even steven francsis get near 2 steals per game... yes, if you're athletic you can steal the ball more...dont' say d.rose doesn't have quick hands...

so can we all say Derek ROSE IS LAZY AT DEFENSE?????????????

discuss.

Steals are not a great indicator of defensive ability. That being said, his defense does leave something to be desired. His defensive focus and energy fluctuate from possession to possession, and often you can see that his fundamentals aren't great. This was evident against POR where he didn't stay low when playing man, bit on head fakes, didn't fight through screens, failed to communicate positioning with his teammates, and his D stance was closed which allowed Andre Miller to blow by him on more than one occasion en route to scoring 27 pts.

Luckily for Chicago, they have defensive mastermind Tom Thibodeau coaching, and his scheme often covers up for individual mistakes.

Exactly, team defense is all that matters. We have Boozer and Rose in the starting 5 and still have the best defense in the league. Rose's job is to funnel/shade players a certain way and make good close-outs, and he does an excellent job. When players go for steals and are unsuccessful, the entire defense breaks down.

athleticism has nothing to do with defense. it's part being at the right place at the right time. not a lot of players gamble for steals, cause they know they'll get burned if they dont get it. defense is not about getting steals like most think. it's about staying in front of your man, playing team ball, and forcing them into a bad shot or making the shotclock go down

No not exactly, especially when you associate Rose with doing an excellent job at anything related to defense.

Plus they have Taj Gibson, Luol Deng, Kurt Thomas who are all excellent defenders. Kyle Korvers actually gotten pretty good too.  So lets not make it seem like Thibb is spinning @+*$ into gold.

Getting steals is not a good indicator of playing good defense. You can be bad at defense and create a ton of steals (monta ellis). You can be good at defense and create a ton of steals (rajon rondo). Or you can be bad at defense and not create steals (derrick rose).

For someone who is as athletic and fast as rose is, he should be creating more steals....i agree op. If you arent playing good man d, you better be a defensive playmaker.....rose does neither.

You don't know about defense, you're a Raptors fan
And you've been a Rose hater. You didn't address anything I said, you just said "no not exactly".
