stay away from wax and gels and stuff with dye it builds up and gets hard to remove.

you can get your hair wet. i suggest washing every other week minimum especially in the summer. yeah it might take longer to fully lock but you dont wanna stink.

your gonna have to get it touched up or retwisted more often from washing it. you should be able to touch it up yourself and maybe get it retwisted like twice a month.

beauty shops will charge more or less depending on how long your hair is and how much work needs done. i suggest finding a lady friend to do it for free or cheap.

I started off with comb coils. I was always told to stay away from wax or use it as sparingly as possible, since it causes build-up.

It's good for starting locks, since it holds better, but once the hair is locked, move on to gels. I'm pretty sure my godmother uses Jamaican Mango and Lime Locking Gel. Pretty much anything with petrolatum isn't good, it actually makes your hair slick and it harder to lock.

You can wash the hair, but in the beginning stages when it isn't completely locked, you'll have to retwist it to keep it from unraveling.

And yeah, find a friend to do it, cuz the salons and shops charge out the $*% for just maintaining locks.

Beeswax is cool when you FIRST get your hair twisted and the locking process begins. Don't use it anymore after that though because it sticks in the hair and all that bad %%@*.

I'm currently not in the frame of my mind to hit on all the potential problems and what not but it's a really strenuous routine in the early stages and it's common for the dreads to come undone, I guess it varies from person to person on how long it takes the dreads to finally lock but it can be really inviting to just say +%#* it.
