Love these threads.

I've been looking into getting my first handgun and recently got to fire a Kel Tec P-3AT. Thinking about buying my own after spending a little time with it.

Does anyone here have experience with Kel Tec or this gun in particular? Reliable? Worth the $280?

good luck getting a CCW in CA..you better have a damn good reason as to why you need to carry concealed. If you just want a handgun for protection go take the test and get your permit.

Can't wait till I turn 21....I could go ahead and get a shotgun now, I think I'll wait till I move out though.
I would love to shoot something like what OP posted though, it's probably a pain in the *** to get a hold of one though...all I've shot are handguns and rifles.
Living in the south and having good ole boys as friends in high school ftw.

I'm looking to purchase my 1st shotgun. Narrowed down my choices to a remington 870 or mossberg 590. Trained with both, feel comfortable with both, just trying to decide between the 2. Anybody have either? Likes/dislikes?

Very nice pistol, man.

I recently had the chance to fire/handle a Kimber. It was a stainless Raptor II. He wanted $950 for it, but I don't really have the extra money like that right now and didn't feel like dropping a grand on a pistol. He said he paid $1500+.

I will invest in one in the future, though.

I own a Kimber Custom CDP II, got it late last year. She's a beaut, and packs a heck of a punch. Using Remington Golden Saber Jacketed Hollow point in 230 gr.

Have been looking to get a shotgun for hunting. Decided on a Benelli Supernova. Good price point and very good all around shooter.

That Stainless Raptor is super sexy. Depending on how he's treated it, $950 is a good price. Still expensive, but you get a great gun.

^ look into the taurus pt1911. It's by no means a Kimber, but it has a lot of features (combat trigger, night sights, upgraded beavertail) and can be found NIB for under 500.

^^ I'd go with the mossberg. from everything i've heard, both are about the same quality, with the mossberg being a little cheaper. I have one, and I prefer the position of the safety

i have a ruger .22LR with an ar stock kit and a 60 round extended clip, great for just shootin around ... also have a 12 gauge BPS in synthetic black and a R700 bolt action (for my cod fans) with a run of the mill scope that has me accurate up to about 500 yards ...

edit... i want to get a hand gun within the next three months ... what would you guys prefer for a home defense starter pistol? i want something that is easy to load/shoot/accessorize and have experience with a glock .40 cal but i dont really know much about handguns ... any suggestions?

Carry a G23 everyday, just bought a Kimber 1911, and Colt AR-15 with Trijicon ATWS from my brother in law and it's amazing.

Anybody got some info on how to legally own one in NY? I'm not trying to carry, just to keep in the crib.

For NY you will need to have a permit to purchase and also a license even just to keep it in your house. New York City is out of the question.

In Cali the gun laws are strict as far as "assault weapons". You cannot have a rifle with more than a 10 round magazine and it can't be a detachable magazine. Also the handguns can't have more than a 10 round capacity. You don't need a permit to purchase, just fill out an application which is a light background check and wait 10 days. You can obtain a CCW in Cali, but how hard it is to obtain it depends on where you live...expect it to be extremely hard to get one in L.A....which is strange because that is one of the places I'd rather be packing.

Hoopsboy, mad respect with the new style Sig P250. I know that the SEAL operators LOVE Sig (P-226). I had a chance to buy a NAVYSPECWAR edition Sig, but like a dummy I passed on it, regretting it now.

AR Guy...see this is the reason why I like threads like this...the information shared is gold, man I really appreciate the links for that ammo, I'll be getting 500 rounds of the 55 Gr. next week for sure, that way I can preserve my match grade ammo. And the stuff you linked is good stuff from the specs. Nice specs on your M4, all you had to say is Magpul furniture, no explanation needed. I use their P-mags, best investment EVER!!! I need a opinion on a light set...man Sure-fire is expensive, but worth it from what I hear.

MrDoe, I live between NC, TN, and soon to be VA areas, the Mark IV "sniper" scope was $1200. The Eotech Holo sight was only $500.

Yes true BFO is missed in these forums...he and I would go back and forth about opinions on weapons. I thought about naming the thread after him, but I didn't want to offend the people that truly know and miss him like 206.

Bonde, I remember when you picked up your Custom CDP II. Wilson Combat Mags seem to be the best for our Kimbers. The ones that came with it can be hit or miss IMO. Benelli Super Nova is AWESOME, I can't believe how inexpensive it is considering how capable it is. They are really tough and durable as well. I like the desert camo tactical version of it, the pump racks so smoothly.

Sampras is right, Taurus is the way to go if you want to build up and customize your own 1911 and not have it already done by companies like Les Baer and Kimber.

moneyis...I hate to admit this (I'm a 1911 guy), but you can't go wrong with a Glock or SPringfield XD in the 9mm caliber or since you are already familiar the .40 cal. I have a Beretta .40 cal that is nice and easy to shoot, but some people prefer the Glock for simplicity and durability.

Rashi that ATWS is a big time optic as you already know. Thermal capability will see right through fog and smoke too easy. Now you have me interested in one. I love optics, even though they are more expensive than the weapons most of the time.

Me personally, I swear by Springfield XD. I feel they are a lot better than Glocks in grip size, packaging, etc.  They recently just start spinning out the Springfield XDm line. Deeper grooves in the grip, extended clip holds more. They have a 9mm and .40 cal right now, u should check them out. Anybody at a gun shop will tell you the same thing, that for the money (they are cheaper than Glocks as well) you can't find a finer piece of machinery.  The guy at my local gun shop told me that it's rare to find any used XD's because ppl never sell them back

and I believe him b/c I don't think I'll ever sell my .45acp XD, not many .45's can get a 13+1 round capacity

Surefire lights are worth it. I got the G2 LED with a drop in high output lamp. If you do get a surefire flashlight checkout http://tnvc.com.TNVC

Dathgboy, the Springfield XD is one of  the better polymer handguns on the market no doubt. I myself prefer the natural aiming angle that is has and I like the grip safety. With that being said there are just as many people who swear by Glock. The 4th Gen Glocks are looking pretty good. I say a person rent both at the range and shoot them, then pick what they feel is best.

6Dolla, what's going on? I remember you posting that beautiful Kimber Raptor before. I love my Kimber Crimson Carry Pro II, but the detail of that Raptor takes a dump on mine

. Intimidating Mossberg 500 you have, that would make an intruder rethink his choice to be a criminal.

Once again 206 shows us the difference between a few nice guns and a true ARSENAL. Dude you could literally outfit a small detachment of gunfighters. What stands out to me is the Mosin Nagant Carbine (rare if I'm correct) and the Mak, I love Makarovs for some reason. Maybe it's the rugged simplicity of Russian arms.

It's good and rare to see Shotguns with wood furniture these days. I respect the Remmy 870 and the Mossberg 500 and 590 series, but the Bennelli is what I'll more than likely go with. In all reality you cannot go wrong with either of them, no matter how much people argue over it.

Good looking out with the Surefire endorsement AR Guy. I can tell you know your stuff so I trust your recommendation. Wife has put a stop to me spending on weapons, so I have to sell and trade stuff to get new weapons/accessories. So I'm selling my MacBook Pro to get a shotgun and some AR-accessories oh and a cheap laptop to replace my MBP. Dang I got it bad.

That's a 5 shot group at 100 yards with my Special Purpose Rifle and the Leupold Mark 4 "Sniper" scope. A 1/2 inch group at 100 yards is equal to .50 MOA (minute of angle), which is REALLY good for a semi-auto AR-15 variant. 1 MOA is 1 inch at 100 yards, 2" at 200 yards and 3" at 300 yards etc, etc. Basically at the length of a football field I can put 5 shots in a eyeball sized target. All I had to do was exercise good breathing and trigger control, the rifle and match grade ammo did the rest.

Love my XD...

I'm thinking about checking out the new 3.8 inch XDM in stainless but Elder, that Beretta you posted is calling my name.  I've been wanting a 92FS for so long man
smh.gif

On a side note I found an H&K MP5 the other day at a gun show here in town for $430.  Correct me if I'm wrong but don't MP5's go for $10k plus???

- Preciate it.

I am having a hell of a time finding 9mm in Socal for decent prices.

& Wal-mart is ALWAYS sold out of Winchester WB smh

Good advice. A person really can't go wrong either way imo.  That grip safety on the XD is what sold me. I did research between the S&W 40, G19, and the XD45 for over a year before I made the leap. The rigorous testing the Glock and XD went thru made me a true believer in both guns. I'll probably purchase another handgun before I purchase my DDM4. After that, I'll look into Class III ownership. I'm tryna get a lineup like urs

Finally got around to take some pics of my AR

I want to get an Aimpoint and a XD9 this July or August.
