Because eventually you would like either go public and/or have several more rounds of funding. When the valuation for the company happens, they look at financials. If there's slow growth or a plateau, investors turn their backs. Simple as that.

It's very difficult to stay within a single wheelhouse and expand.

With a private business that generates billions in annual rev(2B+) , I don't understand the need to raise capital to gamble trying to become a Patreon competitor. Yes there's a possibility to grow towards huge valuations, but the chance of failure isn't small enough to be ignored.

This is definitely pressure from payment processors more so than wanting to squander a cash generating machine to raise capital for an IPO in a crowded sector.
