The thing about #2 scoring options are they are usually #1 scoring options that are just trumped by all time players.

Look at guys lately like Wade and Pau...in these two they were #1s on solid-good teams, but they themselves didn't have the necessary help.

Historical speaking PG/PF combos can make it to the finals KJ/Barkely Payton/Kemp Stockton/Malone Kidd/Martin too bad they always end up playing against a Phil Jackson lead team with hall of famers on the roster. I am a big Chris Paul fan but I don't think he can win a title with out a legit big man that can get easy buckets in the playoffs. The Lob City act is fun for regular season but just like 7 seconds or less it won't make any noise in the playoffs. The whole pace slows down. Blake and DeAndre have no post moves to get themselves easy buckets.

maybe CP3 needs to bring it out more in the postseason...he has been exposed quite a few times already and is always hyped up as the best PG, when he always gets out-duel by other elite guards. Deron Williams use to get the best of CP3 when he was Jazz, and D-Rose was eating him up, when they played. Now TP is the one doing it. And there only excuse is that he is doing it alone, and has no good options...**** outta here. Deron Williams had Boozer and made him look like a God...now look at him.

CP3 had that great series against the Lakers only because he was being guarded by Derek Fisher.

04 and 07 was the last time a team won a title with the pg being the #1, before that it was isaiah and magic, so you can say its rare to win a title with your pg as a #1

I hate when people say "PG as your best player can't win titles" and then when someone brings up "Isiah, Magic, Tony Parker, Billiups"...they say "those teams were elite" like duh...best teams win titles. You think Lebron won it by himself? You think Kobe was the only star? You think Dirk was playing with scrubs? You probably believe Jordan won those titles all on his own and didn't need Pippen, Grant, Rodman, Toni Kukoc.....smh.

Both Melo and CP3 are #1 options. They just need a better #2 option.

Granted the Clippers are deeper, have a better coach, and a better #2. So there should be no excuses for CP3 at this point.

so are you saying Blake Griffin isn't a good 2nd option? 

CP3 is just as bad as BG in the postseason.

Dwight Howard took Orlando to the promise land with Hedo and Rashard Lewis as his #2 and #3.....Much more success than Melo getting knocked out

Honestly, Paul George is better than Melo

Right now? Melo is definitley better than Dirk. Dirk cant stay healthy and his play has really dropped off the past 2 years. thats not a knock on him, father time never loses. In no possible way is paul george close to melo as a basketball player.

Dwight is a better player than melo when healthy, im not denying that...he's not a better number one option though. he also had the perfect team built around him with shooters and P&R players who found him for easy buckets.

Not good playoff performances, buit he also had some good ones. Overall, hes been average in the playoffs IMO. I think we saw KD go through something similar when his #2 option was taken away ie. the grizzlies series.

Melo has too many doe, and hasn't really improved his game since he came into the L.

LOL at you pointing out KD series against the Grizzles...if that is his worse, Melo best is comparable to that.

Is an elite scoring SF (melo, KD) better paired with a great PG (CP3, Westbrook, Rondo, Rose, etc) or a great C (dwight, gasol, healthy bynum, etc) ?

well it depends. KD is great to pair with anyone because he doesn't dominate and hold the ball for too long like Melo (who isn't even a playmaker,)

so in Melo case, a prime Pau Gasol would be a great pair for him because he is very passive and can do it all on the offensive side.

CP3/Harden/Parsons/???/Dwight would have been nice to see

lol CP3 should be labeled a *** and should get tha amount of hate Dwight/Lebron if that happened.

Nobody is saying he's on barkley's level, thats crazy. But dudes out here legitimatley downplay his talent and abilities and only focus on his weakneses. I'm not even a fan of Melo (Nuggets fan) but I'll give credit where its due and recognize that he's an elite scoring talent, above average rebounder, average passer, average defender which makes him a top 5-10 player in the leage right now off the strength of that. Dominique Wilkins is a very similar player to Melo career wise. PAUL PIERCE too before he got the big 3.

i doubt it, plus I don't see Melo winning a title like Pierce. His EGO seems way to big, and I don't think he is going to change his game. Lakers would be a joke to sign him in 2014...lol if I'm the Knicks I would let him walk, he has been nothing but a failure since he came to NYC.
