UCLA Athletics Set to Make Major Announcement

10:50 AM
May 23 -- UCLA is set to announce its apparel deal Tuesday at noon in a press conference on campus...

UCLA is scheduled to make a major announcement Tuesday at noon, and the assumption is that it's regarding the much-anticipated shoe and apparel deal.

Sources have indicated it's likely that UCLA will sign with Under Armour, the Maryland-based sports apparel giant that has been aiming to expand its reach on the West Coast.
Adidas has been the UCLA apparel provider for several years, but UCLA opened itself up to new pitches this spring when the negotiating window opened. Seeking to gain a market share, Under Armour emerged immediately as a serious contender for the UCLA brand with the same aggressive approach that has allowed the company to sign the likes of Cam Newton, Tom Brady, Stephen Curry, Bryce Harper, Clayton Kershaw and Jordan Spieth to sponsorship deals in recent years.

As we've reported previously, there's a real chance that UCLA ends up with the richest apparel contract in the country. Under Armour inked Notre Dame to a 10-year, $90-million deal in 2014, but Nike has since surpassed that record-breaker twice on agreements with Michigan and Texas.

Under Armour recently signed California to a 10-year deal that included outfitting official club sports teams and providing the student body with discounts on products.
We'll have more on the situation as it develops.

Not going to knock UCLA for swindling Under Armour.

They more than doubled ND's take annually, and you know they are not doing Notre Dame numbers.

Under Armour just paid Nissan GT-R money for a Nissan Versa,

UCLA, Texas, Michigan, and Notre Dame. Good company. A combined 1 National Championship since 2000.

Well it's not like these apparel deals are strictly for football.

And those are some of the top selling team apparel in the country.

And Michigan is going to win at least 4 titles over the course of that deal.

Good news for Pac-12 fans: League has modified exclusivity clauses with ESPN & FOX to reduce the number of Pac-12 Networks night games.
