It seems like you should be able to get more than an expiring contract out of a 24 year old PG averaging 20 and 6.
I suppose I dont know enough about the Schroeder Hawks saga to know why they want to dump him so bad though.

He’s a good player, but also a locker room cancer (to ATL at least) with legal issues. Most teams in the league already have starting PGs.
Picking up Melo’s expiring gives them really good cap flexibility next year. Might be able to pick up some solid young players to go along with their prospects.

True but why trade him just to trade him AND give up a young player and a 1st rounder in the process.
If Kawhi leaves they essentially traded an all nba player and a 1st rounder for Danny Green.
