Well......we were down 3-0, came back, then fell down again 7-4, and now.......it's 14 to 9, with the bases loaded and one out in the 7th. We have 18 hits so far.
And somehow, no home runs today. 16 singles and 2 doubles.
Need to add a few more and let the pen have an easy close to the game. (hopefully)
So, we get a couple more hits but couldn't score again, W 14-9 it is. Now officially at the halfway mark in the season, 46-35, and that with Bryant on the DL twice, Rizzo on the DL, Yu, CJ Edwards, Morrow, and Chatwood STRUGGLING. Add it all up, and.....
We have the best offense in the NL. A +98 run differential, and we still have a chance to get CJ, Bryant, and Yu back in a week or so.
And we're a second half team.
Oh, and Heyward had a 4 hit game for the 3rd time this month........
It's been an up and down season for the Cubbies.
I think most of us are just waiting till August till we go all in into baseball mode, we just gotta get healthy.
Y'all peeped that Sosa interview?
Sammy ain't helping himself bringing up Ernie's name in comparison but I feel where he's coming from. Just wish we could acknowledge him somehow, that man deserves better. I hate the fact that we waited till after Santo died before we retired his number, don't want that to be the case with Sammy either.
Javier Baez with a 2-run double and a 3-run home run, he has 25 doubles, 5 triples, 19 homers, 18 stolen bases, 71 RBI, a .293 average and a well over .500 slugging percentage, PLUS his defense. He is the NL MVP so far.
The Brewers have lost five straight, and the Cards are one game over .500 and just fired Matheny.
Need Lester to be huge tomorrow. Get some rest, get Yu back, and make our usual second half run.
This is comical. 11 guys with a wRC+ at 100 or higher. Most in MLB. (note, Bote is small sample size)
6 players with a WAR above 2. (if Rizzo could get going, we'd really be a nightmare for others)
The Cubs lead the league in Runs, Hits, RBI, HBP, IBB, .AVG, .OBP, and .OPS. They are 2nd in Doubles, Total Bases, and Sac Flys.
The one single area they don't lead is Home Runs which a lot of is due to Rizzo/Bryant bein banged up early, and Contreras not really hot yet. If those 3 pick it up, say 20-25ish, that will be a big second half boost.
All those categories, and they still haven't really hit their stride like they can.
