OFFICIAL AIR FORCE ONE THREAD!!!!!

After seeing the innards of an older af1 I dunno how y'all can keep rockin em like that. Maybe for sub-200lb guys the damage isn't so bad but with the foam crumbled and air units deflated, they're awful for me.

Is the sole too thick to replace in other AF1s?

Why not just use another insole?
That would make things worse. Plus, the shoes would fit too tight. If you look at the photo I posted last page, the foam disintegrated. Another insole would just be compressing and breaking down the foam even more. On both crumbled af1s I’ve had, the midsole dust and crumbles actually start coming out through the upper/sole separation. It would’ve been cool to hollow out the whole sole and air unit and drop in the react midsole that the react af1s have but that wasn’t an option.

Yes. The 2016 nikelabs also used a drop-in midsole as it’s called, as did a pair of Kobe 11s I had. It replaces the whole midsole unit so unless it’s another shoe built for accommodating a drop-in midsole it’ll be impossible to wear.

That's what I thought... like the lunarlon AF1s. I wish they would just make reacts that looks exactly like the regular 1s, I don't like all the weird stuff they do to most of the improved models.

Word, I was just responding to @stitchie last sentence. Though there are a lot more co.jp releases than the ones I listed, like the Turbo Pink joints that were low key fire, I figured I would list the other co.jp grails that he forgot about it.

Just for reference, these are the Turbo Pink co.jps:

got my wife a pair of those years ago...she probably wore them twice

had them listed for maybe $50 on ebay for awhile and nobody bought them so my wife sold them locally on Facebook for $35

this was when ebay said you may get a final value fee if you end a listing early so I just upped the price to $100 and was going to let it sit there for eternity at that price...but someone bought them shortly after raising the price :lol

Atmos inspired id came in today. Finding these DS in a size 10 is a lost cause
unfortunately those id's are a lost cause as well

John Elliott joints have the big drop-in midsole/insole unit as well, and those all black "Equality" joints from a couple of years back too. I'm sure there are others.

Just bought a DS pair of obsidians from 2001. Any recommendations on how to handle leather separation around the toe box? Thanks in advance

Leather is horrendous but the atmos/Georgetown colorway is timeless.

Do you happen to know what the warning signs are to a crumbling midsole? And is that inevitable on a 2001 pair?
Inevitable on a 2001 pair. Happened to my 2006 pair. It's impossible to tell for sure because who knows how they were stored, how often they were worn, etc. With air max 1s and jordans (3, 4, 5, etc) it's usually like 10-12 years and you'll start seeing crumbling but idk if that's true with all AF1s. Technically the shoe is still wearable but it's much less comfortable IMO. It's like having a flat tire.

those jagged edges are annoying me though. reminds me of those crinkly scissors

but fairly nice shoe

I've never seen a crumbling midsole on an Air Force 1. I know the air unit can crumble from within. A midsole though? It's rubber.
