Official British Open Thread.

I'm sitting watching the start of the final day here - and there's still no official thread - so this is it - replacing the lunacy of the"Tiger/Greatest Athlete/I could win the Open after only playing for 2 months..." thread.

Tom Watson looking good to equal the record of 6 Open titles - a record that has stood for 95 years. If he wins he'll also have the record for biggest gapbetween first and last wins and between wins.

It just shows that on these sort of courses hitting the ball accurately and a deft touch around the greens can beat the power of all the young guys. Justincredible. His swing is so smooth and he's barely put a foot wrong.

I was going to make the thread but I was actually AT the Open on Thursday and Friday. Thanks kdawg, I'm watching right now as well. And I'mpulling for Tom Watson or Furyk to pull it off.

What's Turnberry like for spectators? I haven't been since I went to St Andrews a few years ago - and you can barely see a thing. I was within about30ft of Tiger all afternoon and I saw him hit about 2 shots.

Well this year's Open has had dismal crowds at best. Just watch on the TV, there hasn't been many people there all week. Tiger, Tom Watson and Jon Dalywere the guys to get decent crowds and even then it was only 3-4 people deep...not bad considering it's a major. Other than that Turnberry itself is a bitof a pain to get to, but the course itself is pretty compact and not hard to find holes. Physically it's a pretty demanding course though, tons of hillsand mounds you have to walk over and literally people falling all over the place. Regardless it was an unbelievable experience, and funny enough I briefly saidhi and spoke with Tom Watson for a few seconds after his round on Thursday.

Are you going to St. Andrews next year? After this year I'm going to try to get to every major I can because it was such a great experience.

I might - I'm only about an hour from there and my parents have a holiday home about 20 mins away.

You just don't see what you can on the TV though - and it costs a fortune. Last time I took my wife's little sister who was staying with us - she was17 so got in for free. It would get near $200 for 2 people to get in if I remember right.

I would probably try and go to one of the practice days - it's a lot quieter and you're allowed a camera and stuff.

They just said that the odds on Watson winning before the tournament started were 1500 to 1. Wish I'd put $20 on that!

You should be watching it live. Watson is on the 18th right now. Should be over in 10 mins or so - unless he drops a shot and there is a playoff.

At least it's not like the one last year in the US - can't remember if it was the Open or the PGA - where it was an 18 hole playoff on the Monday. Thatwas too much.

One hole is too short but I think is just right.
