OFFICIAL FIBA World Cup Spain 2014 Thread

the gap between usa and european basketball will just gets increased over the years .

first reason for this is that most great and talented EU players nowdays leave for NBA at the age of 21-23 when on the 90s they left at the age of 28 or 30

secondly all these players that are from other countries but due to living for 2 years in some country or given bought passports (like ibaka in spain/prezlic in turkey and others) mess the things up , imagine how better team would crotia serbia or where the hell mirotic is from had him in its roster , or how better slovenia would be with prezlic

also all these divided countries , if montenegro and serbia were still one country and pekovic was in serbias squad ? if lithuania was still united with russia ? hell if croatia-slovenia-serbia-bosnia-montenegro were together ? teletovic-bogdanovic-saric-pekovic-dragic would be added to the serbian squad and not only them

also if france had parker and noah in their squad they may have competed USA but all in all HUGE respect to this french squad , they came to this championship without their leader and best player parker and knocked out the host and for some the favorites for the gold (Spain) , almost came back a 25 pt difference against serbia and won lithuania in a back to back game for the bronze medal . France used to be just a team with parker and 11 more atheltic players that are good at running and jumping but nowdays jeez they are marvelous to watch at .

spain has been the best EU team through the years but the most enjoyable and respectable EU teams of the last decade for me its the Greek team that won the european championship and the USA team and this years French team , with not even half the NBA players Spanish squads had , pulled maybe the 2 biggest upsets of Fiba championships and found their way to the medals out of nowhere

Yea if all them eastern euro countries didn't split they would have a loaded roster :pimp: ...small *** countries be the size of Rhode Island

But independence > basketball :/

Watching a replay of the bronze game one of the announcers brought up that a lot of the European players get started ASAP out of high school straight into pro leagues (often in their home country) while US kids have to go the NCAA route for at least a year then develop with an nba team often on the bench. They have accelerated player development going for them too

Quite a few European players are pros even before they finish HS. Hell, some of them literally go to "Basketball schools" for their education.

I feel like outside of his amazing shot blocking ability, Davis is a pretty bad defender.  He gets overpowered 1v1 and he seems to get lost a lot when his man doesn't have the ball

Davis isn't a bad defender, come on. He's just not playing smart by holding/grabbing and these refs don't play that game. Davis has improved his bulk/strength so he'll be a great defender this season

Bad defender
