No. This has nothing to do with "the age we live in". In hip hop/rap, consistency is a rare thing. We've seen artists in the past have a moment then fizzle out the following year. DMX in 1998. Cash Money in 1999. Nelly in 2000. 50cent in 2003. Wayne in 2008, just to name a few. Reason why Hov is/was heralded during his 7 year run because he remained relevant while delivering quality music year after year. Can Future continue his run in 2016, only time will tell. But after hearing Purple Reign, it's highly doubtful. Just don't blame his fall from grace on bandwagon fans or the current era.
How can you have a fall from grace within a year??
and as far as the examples you stated
- DMX was making quality **** well after 1998... everything he dropped wasn't going to be classic material but he surely didn't fizzle out for another 3-4 years (AND BEFORE ANYONE CHIMES IN I'M NOT EVEN TALKING COMMERCIAL SUCCESS, SIMPLY QUALITY OF THE MUSIC AND IMPACT ON THE GAME)
- Wayne was putting out quality music from C1 - no cielings, was everything he dropped in that period fire, absolutely not but he was def far from trash.
- Nelly/ Cash Money i was never too deep into their sound to really agree or disagree
- 50's run all started from him KILLING every mixtape he did about a year or two prior to GRODT & he continued on a steady pace until Curtis era
My point is that rap these days are all about extremes & A lot of that simply comes from people loving hype.. i see artist who will be on fire one second, but as soon as someone else comes along, suddenly fans act as if everything the other artist does is complete trash.
This is all based on opinions, but with that said i don't see how someone can say 56 nights is Amazing project & then say PR is trash... not as good, sure.... but complete trash? Future has fallen off? *****
Hell This isn't evven the first time this happened to future... he already had a run where he was killing damn near every hook and making bangers.. his quality dipped for 1 project & suddenly dudes were like he's DONE, Migos, RHQ, Thug etc etc are better blah blah blah... a few months later Future starts his "2nd run" and now dudes are acting as if he's god. It just extremes overload with fans these days.
