Official "Going to Vegas in..." Vol. II "It was time"

It is definitely worth it to stay on the strip. Even if you pay a little extra, it is worth is for the convenience.

I would trust the advice of those who have been there.

Anyway, I think i am going to go back to Vegas during the NBA Summer League. Anyone care to share any past experiences?

Nobody has recommended anything though lol. Staying on the strip on the strip isn't worth the extra 300 bucks it would cost imo. I`m not going to vegas to party.

I went last year, bring lots of fluids and if you are any kind of tall, yambs will flock to you like bugs on one of those zap lights.

You'll randomly just run into hella players there.

I've been to Summer League a few times. It's all inside, and the arenas are connected by a shared concourse, so it's easy (and cool) to back and forth to games. I think it's $30 for entry now. They changed it last year from $25 with no announcement. I highly suggest going earlier in the league (opening day through about Wednesday), because there are as many as eight games per day. The best part is the games don't start until, like, 1 pm, so you can go hard at night and not have to worry about getting up early to catch any particular game of interest.

They serve beer and I think some limited hard alcohol (can't remember), so that's good for nursing hangovers. Regardless of the water I've had before going, I always pound a bottle as soon as I get inside. Stay hydrated in there.

Be prepared for A LOT of kids and A LOT of Lakers fans, too.

As for seeing players, it's unlikely you'll run into any stars, as most of them are scheduled to be in Vegas later on for Team USA camp. Regardless, they're never there anyway. I think the biggest names I've ever seen are basically your Bradley Beal-level guys. However, every exec, coach, etc. is there. Everyone is really approachable, and you'll never know who you might run into.

I recommend two spots so I'm not sure why you say that.

Pretty much everything worthwhile is on The Strip so it's not just for partying, it's a matter of convenience,

I've stayed off strip before and it was annoying

I'm just saying... if you are taking an Uber two times a day for 5 days it will ad up. That 300 dollar difference will become a lot less. In my opinion it is worth it to save the Uber money and pay a little more to stay in a prime location. I don't party when I am in Vegas either, but it is nice to walk outside of your hotel and be right on the strip in the middle of everything.

Monte Carlo ballys ti are all affordable and center strip
Hell Excalibur isn't to far south and that's cheap as hell

I took Uber last time when I was staying at the Hilton Grand Vacations Convention Center to the Mandalay Bay and back it was like 28 bucks. Think that's cheaper than most taxis.

Okay, I just went to the sites for both the Hilton Grand Vacations AND Mandalay Bay. I punched in the same days for each, around the time I go EVERY year (mid-July), because I'm familiar with hotel prices around then.

For Hilton, I chose a King suite (one King bed room, one SOFA bed). For Mandalay, I chose the two-queen room (which has two ACTUAL beds). That is as similar as you'll get between the two.

After taxes and resort fees, for the two nights I chose (Saturday and Sunday night), Hilton was $468 and Mandalay was $602. That's a $135 difference. Even IF you're Ubering everywhere, according to your itinerary, a ride to and from the airport to the far north strip, and a round trip to Mandalay Bay are guaranteed. See how much your "savings" shrink in just two round trips? Mandalay is FAR closer to the airport. That's a cheap ride. On top of that, you save the Hilton-to-Mandalay headache.

So, tell me again how it's cheaper to stay at the Hilton?

Exactly. Just slum it at Excalibur and take the train thingy. At least you're across from MGM too.

I have only partied a few times when I've gone to Vegas and even when I don't party I would still recommend staying on the strip. The atmosphere is still good and you're easily accessible to restaurants, stores and casinos. Like others have said you can catch a good deal at Mirage, Ti, Monte Carlo or Bally's.

I will look up rates, lol like i said everything i looked up last night were double the cost, and i really doubt uber is going tk be 40-50 bucks per trip. Im just thinking about paying double the cost and still needig uber

Because I get a massive discount staying at the hotel $59/night for a king suite. There's nowhere you're getting that deal anywhere. The Uber is nothing. All about checks and balances, I rarely gamble when I go as well so the casino aspect isn't needed. Strictly a party trip usually.

lol exactly My room at the SLS was 29 a night and after the resort fee IT was still less than 400 bucks. The only reason I switched to ballys is because it was the only one I found less than 200 bucks from the price I got at the SLS, everything else was 300-400 more and I know for a fact Uber wasn't going to cost more than 200 bucks the whole trip.

lol man nobody got time to be waiting for buses and dealing with missing the bus.

Is there a spot for like Buffet discount coupons? I ask because when I went to NO Harrahs it turns out usually had coupons so most people never pay full buffet price but I didnt know until it was too late. Im going to be going to Rio since it seems like the best value with it being the largest.

Seriously, last year was my first year ever in Vegas and the bus was on point for me. Feel like you can see the strip better and it was really inexpensive. Especially if you're just doing the strip, old Vegas and the outlets. I highly recommended it. It ran every 10-15 mins like clockwork.
