Official Los Angeles Dodgers Season Thread: NLCS vs Phillies

So what do you guys think?

Do you think we still got a chance to turn this around?

Unlike all the Chicken Little fans that we have, we are not out. The D-Backs have owned the NL West, something we are unable to do. However, we play the NL West for the entire month of September, and the Pirates. The Diamondbacks play the St. Louis Cardinals 8 times in September. It seems like everyone expected us to beat the Phillies 8 times in a row. Granted, we haven't looked good the past two games, or 5 out of the last 7. This team just has to take care of business against the cellar dwellers. I don't know if San Francisco and San Diego play harder against us or if we just play down to our competition.

We need to get one out of the next two against the Phillies and then sweep the Nats. Then go into Arizona and try to win 2 out of 3.

It's crazy how the pitching has just been horrible and the worst time of the season.
I don't think you want to take two games at Citizen's Bank Park as a sample. The pitching has been inconsistent all year, and the wearand tear of being overused is getting to the bullpen. Park, Kuo, Beimel, Broxton, Wade and the rest of the gang have been great all year. However, they areshowing signs of fatigue.

The starting rotation has been dissapointing IMO. Penny has been injured all year, Kershaw and Kuroda have been inconsistent. Kuroda will throw a gem one dayand then get rocked in his following start. Lowe has had some shaky starts, but has been great. He just doesn't get run support. Hopefully, Fridaysstart was a fluke for Greg Maddux. The only consistent starter has been Chad Billingsley.

This race will go to the end. Hopefully.

Quintet of hurlers on road back

Wade, Saito, Penny, Schmidt and Proctor at different stages

PHILADELPHIA -- After Dodgers manager Joe Torre went through the rehab statuses of the injured members of his pitching staff, he realized he could have a lot of depth in his bullpen if all the hurlers return.
But Torre also knows he cannot count on having hurlers such as Takashi Saito, Brad Penny, Jason Schmidt and Scott Proctor returning in September.

The one injured pitcher who figures to be back soon is Cory Wade, who came out of a bullpen session Saturday feeling good after being out since Aug. 8 with right shoulder inflammation.

Wade's next step will be throwing an inning for Class A Great Lakes on Monday. The Dodgers want him to throw 25 pitches and will have him continue his rehab in the bullpen if he gets through a quick inning.

Wade could then return on Wednesday if he comes out of that OK, but he said he may need another rehab appearance on Wednesday, which would put him on pace for a Friday return in Arizona.

The rookie righty said the injury resulted from fatigue and is just one of those things that happens when a young pitcher's innings increase.

"It's just unfortunate that it happened," Wade said.

Proctor (right elbow tendinitis) and Schmidt (shoulder surgery) will also make rehab appearances this week. Proctor will throw an inning on Monday and Schmidt on Tuesday, both likely for Triple-A Las Vegas, Torre said.

Schmidt has twice had rehab stints cut short due to shoulder soreness, and Proctor has had such a stint cut short once.

Penny (right shoulder inflammation) will lightly toss on Sunday, which will be the first time he has thrown a baseball since a six-run, three-inning start on Aug. 13, his second outing since spending almost two months on the DL.

As for Saito (torn right elbow ligament), he will join the club in Arizona next week and throw off a mound for the first time since walking off the hill at Dodger Stadium on July 12.

"I think we'll know more when he pitches off a mound, because it's obviously going to simulate the closest thing to game stuff that he's done so far," Torre said. "We'll just see how he feels, we'll keep our fingers crossed, and hopefully he is healthy in the next couple weeks."

Outfielder Andruw Jones (left knee patellar tendinitis) is continuing to take batting practice and participate in drills, but he likely will not return to Las Vegas' lineup for another few days.

Outfielder Delwyn Young (right oblique strain) went 0-for-14 in his first five rehab games for Las Vegas, but busted out with a 3-for-5 performance with two doubles, a triple and three runs scored on Friday.

Torre said he expects the Dodgers to carry about 32-33 players in September, with depth at every position. He added that Triple-A hurlers Eric Stults and James McDonald will get a look.

"One thing you don't want to do is clutter up," Torre said, "[and add] a lot of guys [who] really aren't going to get any playing time. Pitchers are the ones you've got to make sure you have enough anyway, so when you get some of those games that are out of hand somewhat, you don't have to use guys you use on a regular basis."

Finally gametime.

Manny hasn't driven in a run in 5 games, I expect him to be huge today!

Lets get it!

Joe Blanton could be Brad Pennys little brother.

God damnit broxton, this dude hasn't had an at-bat since 2003.

Its always a struggle with brox tryna save the game.

Broxton you @@+%#*$ idiot.

you horrible stupid mother %%%@$%, you get shook so easily.

smh.gif

Excuse me for chiming in, but with Broxton on my fantasy team, I feel the right to vent too:

You sir, are a fat piece of %*!% that can't save games for %*!%. WHAT THE $%*!?

Wow, I've stood by my word from day 1 saying broxton could not handle the closer role. There's a reason why its been 3 years and he's never beenthe Dodgers closer.

Yes, he has a GREAT fastball, but his nerves get shook so easily, he put victorino on and after that he just kept over throwing, over throwing and +%!@+%% overthrowing.

Russ Martin saved about 3 wild ptiches, and to make it worst Andy Tracy, who the hell is Andy Tracy? He hasn't had an MLB atbat since 2003, and walked himon 4 straight balls - and let Pedro Feliz a fastball hitter come up to bat. Broxton was already pitching 2-0, then 2-1 then Pedro was sitting on a fastball andgot it.

Dude aint cold blooded, +%!@+%% %$##.

All these close loses are going to do this team in (2 against SF, 2 agains Col, and 1 against Philly). They are blowing leads and making stupidmistakes. You can't put all the blame on Broxton when the offense failed to score so many times during this game. Broxton doesn't get shook, he justcan't control his $%%!!+% temper so he wants to throw 105 mph after he throws a ball. He doesn't have the mentality of a closer, you can't loseyour cool like that.

Good thing Arizona lost.
