Official: Manny Pacquiao Thread

Just checked eBay... Those prices are ridiculous! Glad I got my pair... Guess doubling up is not an option...

Okay, then what you were told was wrong, since they became available for sale around 10:30 AM CT.

I highly doubt that. I had problems with reps over the last time I purchased a limited release from eastbay (white/gold Pacquiao trainer). That was a while ago and people are still having problems with reps not knowing how to do their job or not having the right info.

But why should eastbay care? We'll be back, we really don't have a choice.
I care about this.  This is the first time I am bring this to the attention of others.  If we keep doing launches like this, it needs to get fixed.

When it is posted in here or anywhere else people do not have a fair chance since the shoes are sold out before most people even see it posted.
Shoes that do not have a hard release date, like the last three Manny Pacquiao shoes, can be sold early once they become active in our ordering system.  Unfortunately, when it comes to shoes with a soft release date, we do not have a set time on when they will become available for sale.  So I just keep an eye on them to see if their status changes.

As for posting when the shoes become available here, I understand your side, but here is my side.  I get a lot of questions asking when the shoe will become available.  I could have just told everyone they will be available on 5/6/11 at 12 AM ET, but as soon as one person finds out they are available before this time, they would let all their friends know and only they would get the shoes, since they are extremely limited.  Then I would be the bad guy for saying they would not be available until 12 AM ET on 5/6/11.  So by me posting information here and on Twitter, I give more customers a shot at the shoes.

I told everyone that asked about these shoes where they can go to check for updates 1-2 weeks in advance.  You may not be able to check the thread for updates, but you can always ask a friend or someone else you know to do it for you.

I agree with the fella above that telling people in advance only gives advantage of a certain demographic of collectors (ie, those who follow twitter and those who surf the net 24/7)...if the shoe was released early via internet and it was reported, then i think there's no control...but whether it's a legal or illegal move on your part, i'm not sure if this makes sense from a business organization nor an avid sneaker collector as to how this all benefits.

Would love to hear your insights. And again, i'm not bashing. I'm just trying to understand this whole "process" better.

Thanks.
I posted here to give you guys a shot at the shoes, nothing more, nothing less.  Otherwise, I believe most of your other concerns were answered in my reply above.

If you have any other comments, please let me know.

Was on the phone last night at at 9pm PT, called in at 8:30am PT, and just got off the phone now at 10:15am PT.
9pm:  not for sale yet, they said check back tomorrow.

8:30am:  Rep says sold out.  Explanation given, they're not for sale yet cause they haven't received them.

10:15am:  Same thing.  Rep says they're not sold out because they haven't received them yet.

Ray - What do you know that they don't know?  Are they lying just to get me off the phone or are they telling the truth?  I, like a lot of people on here, love Eastbay cause of the tax situation in California.  I'm also a Gold Club Member and have had it since you introduced it.  I'm starting to question why I even try anymore.

I understand all the information shown on our ordering system.  From what you are saying, it just sounds like the agents do not know how to look at certain screens/information and understand what it all means.  I do not think they are lying to get you off the phone.

I just checked our system and there are currently none available for sale.

I know they're not available for sale; I've been given that explanation last night and twice this morning.  The question is, are none available for sale because you sold them already or that you haven't started selling them yet?  That seems to be the hardest question to answer whenever I call to speak to one of your sales reps.

You may care but the higher ups probably don't. They are either incompetent or indifferent. Take your pick.

How many limited releases (like this one) has Eastbay done and they don't know they have a problem? I just find that so hard to believe. That makes them incompetent. To be so out of touch with their operation is a joke.

Or option 2, they just don't care. They know that people will buy from whoever has them. I'm going with this just because they probably don't think it's worth their time and money to fix because they will always sell their pairs regardless. So why waste time and money to end up with the same result.

The fact reps can't read screens isn't an explanation it's an excuse that is eastbay's fault. I don't know any other job that someone can be incapable of performing a core part of their job and it seems to be ok. %%%% it, I'll take an eastbay rep job. I don't have to do the job right.

I'm happy I didn't call eastbay myself otherwise I would have lost it. Incompetence bothers me (for all jobs) even if it doesn't affect me. If it affects me it's on a whole different level

^ as to the Fight Night MP huaraches, i got an 11.5 but for this MP 1.3, I got 11. so maybe it depends individually.

Anyway, a short checklist on Manny's potential look tomorrow night:

1) "I-want-to-give-them-a-good-fight" look (as usual)
2) Yellow gloves (Cleto Reyes?)
3) Blue Nike boxing boots (as we already saw pics thereof)
4) Boxing Trunks -- ??
5) Shirt prior to ring entrance -- ??

I am amused by the color combination of the shorts, boots and gloves...let's see how Manny puts them all together..

BIN prices on ebay for the 1.3 are nuts. I didn't know they would be THAT limited. At least I can still get the trainers

2)  I would imagine Cleto's and 8 oz of course.
4)  Probably same color combo as his shoes.
5)  I want to say the yellow heart shirt just cuz he asked peeps to wear yellow and it's fitting with the heart shape and all.  We will see...that's the only reason why I bought it, but never liked that design.  I'm hoping.

Yup as I called it, the yellow heart shirt will most likely be the same in the locker room while he's waiting and warming up.

Did anybody get a cancellation on their orders? I just checked mine and it said no longer available.
In Pacquiao’s New Marketing Strategy, There Is an Element of Surprise
With no previous experience in boxing, Lucia McKelvey was recently hired as Manny Pacquiao's marketing manager.

LAS VEGAS — At its disorganized, fragmented peak, Manny Pacquiao’s endorsement strategy was being handled by anywhere between 30 and 50 friends who claimed to represent him and made hundreds of cold calls, often to the same company. They brokered potential deals for everything, including sexual-enhancement drugs and poker chips, as if playing a giant game of marketing darts.

As Pacquiao ascended to boxing royalty, as his earning power ballooned beyond even his greatest expectations, this lack of a strategy came with real consequences. Pacquiao lost a potential Gatorade endorsement, lost an appearance on an EA Sports video game cover, lost, by conservative estimates, a few million dollars in recent years alone.

Now, Top Rank Boxing, the company that promotes Pacquiao, has taken the unusual step of hiring an expert to consolidate his marketing affairs. Top Rank has little experience in handling the endorsements of its boxers. Lucia McKelvey, its new executive vice president in charge of business development and marketing, had no experience in boxing. Yet both believe uncharted territory is better than the haphazard alternative.

“When you look at Manny’s world, there was no continuity,

Hmmmm....  I went with 12s my usual size, hoping they fit ok I have a wide foot.  With no 12.5s that I know of I thought maybe a 13 would be too big and fit weird with the 360 sole?  Thanks for the input 619.. wondering how a 13 would fit.. can't wait to get mine.  Although subtle and simple I think the colorway is clean.
