Regardless of the price, I thought this past weekends card was pretty weak. Bisping was technically proficient the entire fight but just not that exciting.

disappointed in sokoudjou but knew he had his hands full with luiz cane. he relies too much on dodging punches then actually defending against them.

same thing happened to him against glover textiera in the WEC.

you assume many jumped on the mma 'bandwagon' when you could have easily done the same and just adopted an arrogant 'i was here first' attitude.

are you some sort of card carrying member or somethng? can i see some mma identification?

ive seen bas fight at least 25 of those fights and he would not be amongst today's elite. on an absolute scale that definitely makes him mediocre.

looking for sam stout to get back in the win coloumn.

i believe the canadian affiliate for ufc programs is airing the card live.

I mean, I don't think guys like #%$+ Lane, Yale Lary, Franco Harris, John Riggins, etc. would not be considered elite at this stage too. MMAhas evolved just like other sports. You can't really compare guys now to before, because guys like Royce, Saku, Coleman, etc. are still legends and greatfighters back in their day. Hell even future legends like Matt Hughes, Pat Miletich, etc are in that category now.

You guys know the reason Brock is fighting Randy? It's because Mir beat Brock... so Brock got a title shot... so Mir has to fight Nog for the interimtitle... cause Nog got the interim title by beating Tim, so Nog became the number one contendere for a title shot with Randy... so Randys fighting Brock...cause Mir beat Brock... so Brock got a title shot... so Mir has to fight Nog for the interim title... cause Nog got the interim title by beating Tim, so Nogbecame the number one contendere for a title shot with Randy... so Randys fighting Brock... cause Mir beat Brock... so Brock got a title shot... so Mir has tofight Nog for the interim title... cause Nog got the interim title by beating Tim, so Nog became the number one contendere for a title shot with Randy... soRandys fighting Brock...

Nov. 8 EliteXC Cancels; Pro Elite Folds
EliteXC "Night of Champions," scheduled for Nov. 8 at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nev., has been cancelled as the promotion heads into its final days of business, Sherdog.com has learned from numerous sources.

Joey Villasenor, who was slated to challenge Robbie Lawler for the EliteXC middleweight crown in Reno, was informed of the show's cancellation Monday evening.

TJ Thompson, a Pro Elite executive, said he'd been informed Monday morning by the company that they were closing its doors for good this week and that bankruptcy paperwork had already been filed. Thompson's Hawaii-based Icon Sport promotion was purchased by EliteXC's parent company, Pro Elite, in 2007.

As of Monday afternoon, Nevada State Athletic Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer said he had not received word that the event had been cancelled.

A notice posted Monday evening at graciefighter.com read, "We are confirming that EliteXC has folded. What this means for our fans and supporters is that there will not be a Nick Diaz vs. Eddie Alvarez fight on November 8th."

Graciefighter.com is operated by representatives of Diaz's camp, who was slated to face Alvarez for the vacant EliteXC 160-pound title.

Representatives from Pro Elite did not return calls Monday.

Pro Elite, which has accrued $55 million deficit during its two years of operation, had been in need of a helping hand in recent months.

On Sept. 17, Showtime Networks filed public notice with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announcing its intention to enter preliminary negotiations for the purchase of the fledgling company.

Showtime, a subsidiary of the parent conglomerate CBS Corporation, already has broadcasting deals with the Los Angeles-based company on both its premium cable channel and CBS. Showtime also has a 20% ownership stake in Pro Elite.

Discussions of Pro Elite's purchase were said to have gone well and a deal looked imminent as of two weeks ago when EliteXC held its third installment of "Saturday Night Fights" on CBS. The Oct. 4 event, which was funded entirely by Showtime, drew 4.56 million viewers and almost matched their initial May offering on the network.

But negative press surrounding questionable conduct before the main event between Seth Petruzelli and Kevin "Kimbo Slice" Ferguson have overshadowed the ratings success. Petruzelli, who stepped into the headlining bout on an hour's notice and beat Slice in 14 seconds with a short right jab, intonated afterward on a Monday morning talk show that promoters had given him added monetary incentive to stand with the less ground-savvy Slice.

Pro Elite officials later denied any wrongdoing, calling the pre-fight locker room discussion a "knockout bonus" offer, but public outcry led the Florida State Boxing Commission to open an investigation on the matter.

And stop with all the "downfall of MMA" melodrama. MMA will be fine. The NBA survived the Donaghy controversy. MMA has survived steroid issues. As has baseball. Y'all are getting your panties in a bunch for nothing.

bas trying to train kimbo to be a mediocre fighter just like he was.

who in today's game trains only one aspect no matter who they are facing?

And most fighters who are dynamic in one aspect of MMA usually train heavier in other aspects. Kos doesn't train wrestling much anymore etc. You don't even see Nog roll anymore really. He trains standup. It's not that uncommon. I can see why Kimbo wouldn't train much standup to fight Ken, who was widely regarded as a submission guy. Kimbo's weakness.

I come in here for a second and I'm quickly reminded why I stopped coming in here. Many thanks all!

While MMA mght not be done, EliteXC is. Controversy over the Kimbo fight played into the decision of Showtime not purchasing them. Whos next?

Obvious speculation has to be Affliction. Hahaha. They suck. Heres sherdog's article:

I really wanted to see Diaz/Alvarez

.

elitexc... oh well too bad dont really care for them.

although wassup with my girl gina carano now??? guess shes gonna do american gladiators full time now.

ufc should sign jake shields just so that gsp can destroy him, but after gsp loses to bj penn.

and kimbo is going back to youtube

There are so many options for the EliteXC roster, it's ridiculous. Between UFC, DREAM, WVR, Strikeforce, WEC, Affliction and every regional promotion intheir hometown, there is PLENTY of work to be found for fighters.

LOL, I wouldn't be surprised to see Kimbo as a reality TV star sometime down the line!!

Out of all the non-UFC US promotions, Stirkeforce seems to be the one organically growing their product.

And quite frankly, they've been around forever so it's not just "flash in the pan" for them. Out of all the promotions out there, I feel thatthey're the ones that eventually become the number 2's to Zuffa's UFC/WEC.

I wouldn't mind seeing Shields in the UFC, but I wouldn't feed him to anybody like GSP yet. He needs to see Koscheck, Sanchez, or even Hughes beforehe sees GSP.

I'd take Diaz and Smith, too. But that's for my own selfish reasons.

i see Gina going to the international fight league because they want to match her up with larosa. as for kimbo he will be lucky if strikeforce even picks himup

Hell, if I were Dana I'd come through and sweep up their HW's! D. Herman, B. Rogers & A. Silva would be welcome additions to a weak roster in theUFC.

Um, the IFL is out of business. HDNET bought up there remains. Kimbo is go to Japan, and be a freak show for the Japanese audience. Gina should stop fighting, just do porn
I think he meant the AFL, but I don't know what they're doing now. IF Affliction ends up having one or two more PPVs, then I can see Ginafighting there. Or Strikeforce. I see a lot of people who aren't going to the UFC/WEC heading over there.

lol I just got to see the Gono vs. Hardy fight, I'm surprised he got to do his 'DJ Gozma' entrance. Most of the best 89 fights were on theundercard, like expected. Made some money on Cane and Hardy too

Fedor's Manager Vadim Finklestein Addresses Dana White

By Jason Perkins | October 23, 2008

Vadim Finklestein is well known in MMA circles as the man who manages Fedor Emelienenko, perhaps the greatest fighter in the world. Finklestein took exception to a piece we ran a few days ago in which Dana White stated that the door is wide open for Fedor to come to the UFC and face Randy Couture. Below is Finklestein's official response:
Dana says UFC's doors are wide open. Maybe they are. But these doors also shut tightly once the fighter signs with the organization. Randy Couture came back to the UFC and what now?

Instead of fighting the best in the promotion he has to fight a young upstart with 2-1 pro-record. Couture might not survive all the three contractual fights. I'm afraid that's being made in order to finish the star which is Randy and not let him fight Fedor.

I said it many times - we are ready to make this clash happen in any shape of joint event.

This bout is the most anticipated event in the world of MMA. But Fedor will not sign to the enslaving terms of the UFC contract while UFC won't agree to make compromise.

Why would Fedor need to prove anything to anybody? He's already defeated 4 ex-UFC champions and twice UFC Interim champion in Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
According to White there are guys better than Tim Sylvia. Well, who are they?

Looking at the world rankings one can conclude it is Fedor himself, Couture whose situation I discussed above, then it's Nogueira, Josh Barnett and Andrei Arlovski. To face off with Josh or Andrei there is no need for Fedor to come to UFC. He'll fight them at Affliction.

I truly believe Dana White did more for MMA than anybody else, but at the moment he is the one who hinders the sport's progress. He seems like a man with a big tasty pie who's afraid that someone comes and bites a piece of it.

All we want is mutually beneficial cooperation but the old conditions offered by UFC are simply unacceptable.

randy's not going to make it to fedor without a loss, if ever.

however if i am correct randy wants this fight with lesnar as he sees him as a challenge. nog would be a huge handful for randy as well, so im really not surewhy he stated 'no challenges' as one of the reasons for leaving the ufc.

dana's not allowing the fighters to participate in fights outside the ufc because of lidell losing in the pride tournament. bad for business to state thatthe best fighters in the world are in the ufc only to have them branch out and get a whoopin.

also on an unrelated note, fighters need to stop trying to inflate their credentials by stating their title fight wins as a title gaining win.

it's happened more than once but i recently saw an old interview with matt hughes claiming that he was a 9 time world champion.

two time champ, not nine, quit fronting.

Representatives for Brock Lesnar on Wednesday requested that the Nevada State Athletic Commission remove Steve Mazzagatti from consideration as referee for the upcoming five-round title fight between their client and UFC heavyweight champion Randy Couture.

The anticipated bout, which pairs the hulking former World Wrestling Entertainment superstar with the UFC hall of famer, will headline UFC 91 on Nov. 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Citing Mazzagatti's officiating in Lesnar's UFC debut against Frank Mir in February, attorneys David Olsen and Brian Stegeman made their aversion to the referee's presence known at a regularly scheduled NSAC meeting. The attorneys claimed Mazzagatti was "involved in what we believe was a controversial ruling in connection with the Mir-Lesnar fight." They asked that Mazzagatti be removed from consideration for the UFC 91 main event to avoid "distraction" and "any further controversy."

During the Lesnar-Mir match at UFC 81 -- a match Mir won by first-round submission -- Mazzagatti deducted a point from Lesnar for an illegal blow to the back of Mir's head. Up to that point, Lesnar had dominated the former UFC champion and appeared to be on the verge of forcing a stoppage.

NSAC Executive Director Keith Kizer commended Mazzagatti for his work at UFC 81 and did not remove him from consideration.

"I think Mazzagatti did a great job that night," Kizer said.

Along with Mazzagatti, Herb Dean, Josh Rosenthal and Mario Yamasaki were under consideration to officiate the Couture-Lesnar match. Yamasaki was ultimately awarded the bout, which marks the 45-year-old Couture's return to the cage for the first time since he stopped Brazilian Gabriel Gonzaga on strikes at UFC 74 in August 2007.
