From the day the traded players started playing (February 11th) through the day they played the LAC without 4 rotation players (March 8th), the Cavs were 11th defensively.

Source

The actual defence within possessions is average, the Cavs are just having trouble cleaning the glass

  • Since Love went down, the Cavs are 29th in contested defensive rebound percentage. Before Love went down, they were a far more respectable 21st.

  • Between Love going down and the trade, the Cavs were 30th in contested defensive rebound percentage, dead last.

  • Since the trade, they moved up to 26th, indicating the trades improved their defensive rebounding. When Love comes back, I expect them to settle a few slots (around 15th) above the 21st spot they previously held.
Their defensive rating since the trade seems to indicate that they are average (not terrible) on that end of the floor, the only reason they are giving up so many points is because they cannot rebound. This lack of rebounding is directly connected to Kevin Love's absence and is only exacerbated when Nance and Zizic are your only bigs since TT went out (he sucks but he is a big body that can bang in the post and pick up some boards, he also allows Nance to remain fresh).

The defence is fine, especially once you realize you're getting regular season effort levels on that end from LeBron, the real problem is injury.

I don't think he saw him.

Oh no?

COTY contenders:
Casey (I think whoever finishes 1 between Raps/Celtics will get it)
Stevens
McMillan (if they finish top 4)
Stotts (if they finish top 4)
Doc (has to make playoffs)
Snyder (has to make playoffs)

honorable mention: Gentry, Brett Brown

After making this list I might have to revise my Doc as top 3 COTY candidate

excluded MDA because he already won last year.

For those thinking Love is the answer

What if i told you most people are gonna look at this stat & automatically think this is K.Love fault.... and then in reality

He has a defensive rating of 111.9, for reference

Jamal Crawford 113.2
Zack Randolph 113.6
JR Smith 113.7
D-Rose 114.2
IT 114.7

Dude is LITERALLY one of the worst defenders in the league.... but still you'll have people in here saying he can guard 5 positions

Question, is Bronny going to make it?

Way too early to call but I'd say it depends on how much more athletic he gets. Bron has him with very good trainers though. Skill wise he's got a great foundation. I'm rooting for it just for the story alone. It would be really cool if Zuri became the greatest female ever, and by cool I'm simply referring to the chaos that would ensue

Honestly the Spurs would benefit more than ever missing the playoffs this year. Them signing Pau, LA & mills to those deals handicapped them a bitt going forward. And seemingly Kawhi isn't exactly on the best terms with the team. They need to HIT on this late lottery pick if they decide to shut it down.

:{ just seen that video of that kid flagrant foul.

He knew he could do that cuz dude dunking was the only black player on that team.

My guy trynafeelmink trynafeelmink basically constructs narratives just so he can argue with himself

You posted A lebron K.Love stat that revolved around defense..... People naturally will try to blame K.Love for this because there' still this perception that LBJ is a good defender. I'm just posting some stats for clarity.

It's only "constructing" a narrative when it isn't popular with fans of the player. We constantly have discussions where people criticize players for not being good defensively. Harden, Russ, Curry, Towns etc etc all catch flack for their perceived lack of defense. However it's rare that Lebron is brought up in those conversations Despite him literally being one of the worst defenders in the league this season.

There's still plenty of people who will argue how Lebron is hands down the best player in the league, yet he's one of the worst defenders. So if asking people to keep the same sentiments they have about other players is "constructing a narrative" so be it.
