And you guys have 3 shooters, thats a bit too much
waaaaaay too many shooters. (see below for why that's a problem)
this is my take on archetypes (and this is a gem)
first off, the taller and heavier you make a player, the slower they become. The shorter and lighter you make a player, the weaker (but quicker) they become..this isn't just movement speed...its ALL aspects of the game.....for example, i'm sure many people don't know longer arms make your dribble moves have longer strides and quicker animations....(i cant give ALL the gems)
playmakers - best raw attribute upgrades, worst badges. (super saturated due to on-ball speed and dunking/shooting attribute caps)
This is basically the default archetype. all-around. my second build was a 6'8" 189 lbs point forward. he was raw. (his hotspots were broken by a glitch so i made the lockdown)
but, getting placed at the 4 almost 75% of the time in pro am.....(and getting bullied) and the very ball-centric badges, i.e. you have to have the ball in your hands....plus the fact that I only picked the archetype for the attribute trees, not the dribble moves, (i dont even dribble) i was like "man, this build is worthless without the ball...and i never have the ball" (something to think about)
At top level, nobody stumbles from ankle breaker moves. if you have a team who can shoot, or a team with chemistry to move the ball around to open teammates, then dimer HELPS but it's not doing much for open, high-percentage shots anyway. Always smart to have a playmaker to fall back on if the offense is stagnant or your PG (of another build) is having turnover troubles.
can dunk, shoot, dribble and move with and without ball the fastest. defense, middle of the road. use this build for guards and athletic 2s 3s and 4s (you have to make him a SF, but you will be put at the 4 if hes 6'8" and up regularly)
an example (in my opinion) of a real life playmaker is lebron. the only way to make a guy that size have any resemblance of speed, this is the build. I saw a dude on twitter say he tried to make a ben simmons build at playmaker, but the speed goes waaaaay down as you increase height and weight, so it's kinda impossible. Another player i would consider a playmaker build is giannis. again, you can't recreate the height and speed, but the fact that all the other attributes can be increased makes for a more well-rounded, all-around player.
shot creators - takes the 2nd most skill to be successful with. great midrange offensive badges. (if im not mistaken they have ankle breaker, too) Tireless scoring is awesome, it actually gives you an increase in hit percentage when your stamina bar is flashing, not just negating the ill effects of the stamina bar flashing)
shot creators have decent standing shot. you should be able to green light threes and twos consistently. the fun comes in with all the "off dribble" shots....they aren't as fast on or off ball as playmakers, BUT, when you take into account ankle breaker with dribble moves (not that its gonna make people fall) you can make up for the lack of on and off ball speed. their jumpers max at 94 off dribble.....
real life examples are def james hardin, allen iverson, etc. basically dudes who cook people in iso.
this archetype is best with guards, imo, under 6'6". anything bigger and they are too slow to create their own shot. my cousin made a 6'10" shot creator day one and he played exactly like a slasher.....which leads to the next one...
slasher/athletic finisher - one of the more underrated archetypes imo. very straight forward. (personally, i would make a "ben simmons build" a slasher/athletic finisher with one man fast break HoF, i'm sure that 78 speed gets bumped to 85-ish. slashers are basically the only build who can't shoot lights out from deep. yes, there are slashers on the planet who can hit threes....but their three maxes out at like 45 or 50, which is going to be a 50/50 ball even if you shoot green lights consistently.
if you are interested in making a slasher, i suggest to make him short, long-armed and heavy. I used to run with a team that ran me, a lockdown PF, at the 2...and we had a slasher SF, 6'6" 245 playing PG.....when i say we abused guards, we played 4 out 5 in, and iso'd him with PG, typically no bigger than 6'4" 200 lbs, ITS BUCKETS ALL DAY....pumpfake, dunk....pumpfake, dunk....pumpfake, dunk.....
ill take this time to expand on strength for a second. weight and strength affect a lot about the game. once i got my strength up to 72....even my dunks are more vicious and violent. take this into consideration. if you run 2 guard as a slasher and your matchups are constantly 20-30 pounds lighter than them....BULLY THEM. it works.
think amar'e in his prime.....boogie....i thought about making a 7'2" 290 lbs young shaq athletic finisher, but i can't do that 60 speed lol
glass cleaner - self explanatory. people cried about them being OP, but, literally, all they can REALLY do is rebound....and they're too slow at 7' to do anything else....not a big fan of glass cleaners, obviously. people who get cooked by glass cleaners need to find new games.
before i got paint protector, defensive stopper and rim protector, they would rebound and go back up on me effortlessly....since? it's real quiet for GCs.....
deandre jordan is a glass cleaner build, he just breaks the mold with that vertical. most other glass cleaners are bummy IRL....imo....
i think a ben wallace glass cleaner maybe a problem, tho. never seen a shorter glass cleaner....
post scorer- another weird one (like glass cleaner) that feels like they only added it because it's a feature of basketball....
i've not run into any raw post scorers, nor do most playstyles even allow for one to be on the court.
problem with posting up in pro-am is that most teams like to run......it's a free flowing offense, and much harder to stop than an actual set offense.
people have hard enough times getting looks when they're standing wide open, by themselves
why would 4 people give you spacing for post moves to get 2 points, when they can literally dribble around a screen and hit your slasher cutting for that same 2 in 1/3rd the time?
real life examples? z bo al jefferson
last and very much least,
sharpshooters
by far the most over-saturated, lowest skill build 2k has.....
i'm super anti sharp shooters.....it was the first build i made. in 2k15, i could green light about 95% of mid range shots, guarded or not, good defense or not....never could hit threes consistent enough to even shoot them. First day on 2k17, im like "never again" so i make a 7' SS PF (someone on NT said they had a team already and needed a 4 no matter what)
so im playing park. with my jumper grinded to a measily 70....with catch and shoot ONLY.....i green lighted threes like...every time. Sounds great, right? no. First off, you have to rely on a teammate to give you that pass......second.....the SS was way too slow (58 speed max?) to even get back on defense...
so, yeah, i hit a three i had to stand in the corner 15 seconds to even get, BUT now you just got 2 of them back by literally running up court faster than me.
why in the world would you need a 95-98 jumpshot? how in the world do you ever MISS?
compound the fact that lockdown badges LITERALLY turn off grand, bronze, silver, gold and HoF badges LOL
dog, you have no idea how many sharpshooters match up on me, averaging like 20 points a game, who aren't even trying to shoot open shots by the 2nd quarter from all the airballs.
by far my most rewarding accomplishments in this game....
dudes who WANT to shoot but literally tap x when the ball is halfway coming over to them...
by the middle of the 3rd, i dont even have to really guard most stretches......cause they either not trying to shoot, or still bricking from the first half smothering...
real life sharpshooters? come on, fam.
(most sharpshootering stars in the league wouldn't even be considered a SS build)
kyle korver?
i know, like always, this was an extra long, extra OD post
but this is what i thought the post was gonna be about
helping each other off NT love
hope this helps people trying to tinker with builds.
(and this is the fast version LOL)
