***Official Political Discussion Thread***

The way they're going back to cold war rhetorical tactics (likening Black liberation/social equity movements to communism), we should just expect Republicans to go straight to J. Edgar Hoover and Nixon's descendants the next time they have the opportunity to nominate someone for the FBI or the presidency.

It's that ridiculous.

Even though Biden's new offer of $65 billion for broadband matches the amount proposed by Republicans, the size isn't the only part likely to be opposed by the GOP. Instead of giving private ISPs the best shot at receiving funding, Biden proposed "prioritiz[ing] support for broadband networks owned, operated by, or affiliated with local governments, non-profits, and co-operatives—providers with less pressure to turn profits and with a commitment to serving entire communities." This could be a major change from previous US spending programs that doled out billions to private Internet providers. Republicans have consistently fought against public broadband for years, and this year they proposed a nationwide ban on municipal broadband networks.

It's insane how they don't get this:
I'm not sure I see the point, Biden's just negotiating with himself. As the Republican reaction to the Jan 6th commission shows, even when they are given everything they want they still will refuse to sign on.

Just ram the original through, it's got broad public support.

WTF is wrong with Democrats?

Rumor is the Supreme Court is handling down the ACA ruling early tomorrow

5 Justices that got nominated by Presidents that didn't even win the popular vote might kick millions off of the health insurance, and strip the whole country of patient protections because of a ridiculous legal argument.

Scary Hours ahead :smh:

Just this week on the state level the GOP has stopped the Democratic AZ Secretary of State of her power until her term is over

The Dem Governor of WI called a special Legislative session so the State Legislature can debate a Medicaid expansion. Within seconds in both in the House and Senate, the session was adjourned without discussion. Ivers would have the power to unilaterally agree to Expand Medicaid, but the legislature and Scott Walker stripped the Governor of that power during a lame-duck session, after Walker lost to Ivers.

Susan Collins is trying to include a poison pill amendment to the Jan 6th commission to kill it.

Yet Joe Manchin is still out here forming the ***.

Biden included a counteroffer because he kinda has to. Manchin and Sinema, especially Manchin won't agree to pass anything through budget reconciliation while "negotiations" are still happening.

It was good that he cut more from the traditional infrastructure stuff as opposed to some other areas.

Whatever is included in the final bill is not up to Biden anyway, it is up to Joe Manchin.

I feel like Biden knows more than what’s being presented to the public. I’m almost certain he’s the first person to know about these recent investigations, considering he hand-picked them. Now thinking about it the GOP stalling the confirmation makes a whole lot more sense lol

this stuck out the most, but is definitely not unexpected:

AT&T said it opposes subsidizing fiber-to-the-home deployment across the US, arguing that rural people don't need fiber and should be satisfied with Internet service that provides only 10Mbps upload speeds.

 on the contrary rural folks need the fastest speeds being so far away from servers/users/networks

I am telling you the system is broken really bad and the mainstream Dems are too busy fighting the progressives to really grasp it

See they are som scared of being seen as liberals they can’t get their **** together to go after the Republicans which is a dead party walking. The conservative sentiments aren’t dead but the party is a rotting corpse that lacks ideas and life,.

Everything I’ve heard, points to the ACA staying intact.

1.) this is the sort of overreach that Roberts wants to avoid.
2.) insurance companies like the ACA
3.) Medicaid expansion is a rare bipartisan thing and several GOP governors like it or tolerate it.
4.) previous oral arguments suggest, the court is likely to severe the IM not matter how they judge the constitutionality of the IM.

That said, they could wreck untold havoc on the lives of tens of millions of people and the fact that we even have to consider it, is evidence of a deeply broken system.
