Not following too closely, but I thought they were just going to apologize for a "bad interview" accepting guilt, how did it change to this?
The initially said they were going to admit to trying to kidnap him and say he died because they accidently "broke" him in the process. Then it came out that they began to saw off his limbs while he was alive without anesthesia with the Saudi consul in the next room listening to his screams...... and they probably realized they are better off denying knowing anything about it.
Let that sink in though...... they began to dismember him while he was alive without any anesthesia. Like this is so much worse than them just killing him and that says a lot.
