i'm a proponent of scaling up funding for trade schools and allowing more students to enter pathways into high-paying blue collar work that are recession-proof and AI-resistant. that said, it's hard to listen to her say there are students who have a "natural propensity" for them –we know the racism and classism couched into that.

mcmahon is probably trying to prop up the DOE's new workforce pell grant and spin it like this administration actually cares about decreasing unemployment. in reality, the workforce grant they just passed comes with a **** ton of unrealistic regulations for the training programs that will utilize it and doesn't actually give recipients enough runway to learn how to become the electricians and plumbers she's referring to.

Until they get a grip on work life balance 90% of companies are garbage.

They preach all this wellness mental health nonsense while working people 80 hours a week saying “it’s just the schedule”

There’s good places to work but the industry mostly sucks and the scheduling will only get worse and worse.

If you meant that they are not trying to make the working class wealthy/comfortable, I agree. I just think it’s intentional. I think they’re trying to flood the trades to bring down the cost of manufacturing. Keeping college education out of reach (financially) is also another way to force people into the trades/manual labor/military.

They’re not stupid, and nothing has damaged the urgency to oppose Republicans more than the notion they that they don’t know what they’re doing.

I think you are spot on about keeping labor costs low.

I'm old enough and young enough to remember when they were eliminating trades programs in high schools and I am from one of the best states for k-12 education historically. All of a sudden these politicians want them back?

The trades do need people. It’s an old work force and half are going to retire soon.

My union has over 12k apprentices now. It can be a good job it can be horrible too but you’ll retire and have healthcare.

But stop saying the trades are for everyone, the industry is toxic and flawed and it’s def not for everyone.

Labor costs are anything but low though unless you mean like un skilled grunt work. They won’t go down either. They’ll just quit taking apprentices if we’re full.

1. Less government assistance for tuition
2. Cements you won’t be the boss. You’ll work for someone
3. Helps their anti college stance

Then they leave the mn market shortly after. They don’t want to deal the mn labor laws and unions.
