**Official Post Your Dog Thread**

Condition him into associating what he's chewing as something that's not satisfying. Like some of that chew repellent spray you get at the pet store. Spray it on packages, say no, and then give him a treat when he doesn't.

Any of you guys have a dog with skin allergies? My boxer mix has some sort of allergy that we just cant figure out. First the vet thought he was probably allergic to chicken, and every food has ****ing chicken in it. So we switched to L.I.D. non chicken, and cycled through all the different proteins, nothing seemed to work. We had him on apoquil (sp?) and that provided him some relief at first but then stopped working. We then tried a course of steroids (prednisone) and that worked like a charm, but like 4-5 days after the regimen ended the itching came back. We then tried the prednisone again and it did not work nearly as well as the first time. We are kind of at a loss now, dont really know what else we can do to try and help the poor guy, when he is itching he rips open his chin, arm pits, etc. The last thing the vet wants to try is an ACTH Stimulation test to see if that can pick up what his issue is. Any recommendations/advice any of you can provide is appreciated.

My vet wanted to do the allergy test on my dog, but it was expensive..She said to just give her 1 Benadryl a day that's the lowest dosage and non-drowsy and that seems to help a lot..My cousin's dog would tear her skin up with itching and her dog looked like it was an extra on the Walking Dead..Come to find out she is allergic to grass (which I guess is more common than you'd think)..They give her some sort of drops twice a day and now her skin has cleared up, she doesn't dig/scratch anymore, and is overall very healthy..Good luck with your situation cause I know it can be frustrating and expensive to deal with..

Thanjs man, we tried benadryl and it didnt do anything. I think we are going to do the allergy test after the holidays. It is expensive but its worth it if we can potentially provide my guy with some relief. The vet told me that once they do the test they develop a custom subcu injection based on the dogs allergies that you can administer at home. Ive already accepted the fact hes going to cost me an extra ~$100/month for the rest of his life. And thats ok if it makes him better.

Cute dog, is that a Cairn? I had a Cairn for 15 years, loved that dog.

^^ Yea half Cairn/half Yorkie

Glad we were able to save him, they found him lost 2 Decembers ago in the open fields of North Dallas

When our dog is itchy, we put coconut oil on the affected area. It acts as a natural moisturizer, and soothes the skin. You should try it.
