Didn't think it was possible.. but England are playing worse than they did in the USA game

England is struggling because they're playing cocky soccer. Instead of trying to work the ball into the box, they keep settling for 25 yard shots because they want to make the highlight reel.

Even with how England is playing, you gotta be proud of Algeria. They're playing tough and not really letting England do everything they want. Even putting up a shot here and there. The 2nd half should be interesting.

Agree.I think also their first game was OK and without that individual fault, they would have got a draw.

They're taking 25 yard shots cuz their passing/inter-play sucks tonight.  They can't seem to string 4 passes together for most of the half, so they're ending up having to go for long-range strikes.

Credit to Algeria for taking it to England.

No.

People blamed Beckham in 98, Seaman in 02, Rooney, Ronaldo and 06...now its Robert Green but the same problem persists. THEY CANT SCORE GOALS. Why cant they score goals? BECAUSE THEY LACK TALENT.

This English team is crap. Plain and simple. No creativity, rigidformation = crap team. There is a reason why Premier League teams do sowell in Europe. It has nothing to do with English players andeverything to do with Premiership clubs bringing in the best talent inthe world from other countries.

Did you guys read Beckenbauer's comments the other day? He said English football has regressed and they 'play kick and rush football".

English players are so mechanical and boring to watch.

Charagher suspended for the next game. At least theres a positive from tonight

He's been past his best for several years now

at "No." How's that high horse feeling there?

It's a matter of perception, and to me the English attack is stopping at the Algerian box because they're going for crazy shots when passes are available. You can call it a lack of creativity, and trust me I know that's a problem for the English, but to me it's also a lack of urgency, and that's why it's a getting a bit better now. Gerrard got into the box, thought about launching a shot, but pulled it back for Lampard/Heskey, neither of which were there. They're realizing this isn't a cake walk, and the offense is getting a bit more creative. No one said this team's creativity is on the level of Spain, but they have enough to beat Algeria in Rooney and Gerrard alone.

England are a route one football team. Long ball, flick into the box, shot on goal.

PersiaFly, you arent looking too deep into this. It is not easy to get inside the box in this sport. It takes good technical ability to routinely get the ball inside the box and to create scoring opportunities. England are not taking long shots because they are cocky...they are taking long shots because they do not have the technical ability to break down the staunch Algerian defence, get inside the box and get quality shots on net. This is not a new problem...it's been a problem for them for decades.

You ever wonder why Brazilians are so gifted? Why Germans are such disciplined and smart players? Why Koreans are extremely energetic? Why Italians are such great defenders? It's because that's how they are nurtured. English players are taught from a young age to play a direct and team oriented game. They are usually organized and tactically disciplined but where they fall short is when the circumstances of the game force a player to have an individual moment of brilliance that gets the team the win. Exhibit A is right in front of your TV/computer screen right now.

It would be a shame if England scored in these last 20 minutes. Algeria has had a good game - lots of great touches, good defense and just playing like a cohesive team all around. England obviously have numerous deficiencies that not even Capello can fix. Their number one deficiency is that they think their national players are better than they really are. This is why you rarely see English players in other leagues - because they're not good enough to compete with foreign players outside of the security of their country. Bunch of overrated goons

I know he's inexperienced ..but Dawson should fill that role. He was the most consistent English defender last year.
It's funny how the english hyped up Rooney as being the one to win us the World Cup.. yet he's been invisible throughout the whole tournament so far

And who do England have to get Rooney and Gerrard the ball? Dont you see how deep Rooney is playin? It's because he isnt getting any service at all.

He's a good striker - a finisher - but not a creator of goals.

His (foreign) teammates on Man U create all the opportunities for him. His English teammates don't.

Thank you tevez! a lot of people i speak to seem to blame englands poor performances on rooney alone, how can he score goals if he doesnt receive the ball?

so far most of the teams that arent doin so well in the WC are all the sides that lack strong center field presence, where have alll the great midfielders gone?!
