I remember seeing this. I used to tell people about this and no one believed me. Never knew the name until about 3 years when my home girl randomly had it sitting on her bookshelf. I used to tell people it was like watching a James Bond Jr movie.My neighbor owned a video store and we always had access to those screeners. Can remember watching this but can't remember what it was about. Also Passenger 57.

I remember that store being filled with VHS’s over DVD’s, you can tell that picture of the shelves is from 2012/13 though because of The Campaign, Men In Black III poster on the wall, despite that TV looking like it’s from 1998. I remember when you’d just see the one, empty VHS case and get pissed because there were no VHS tapes behind it to rent.

My exact thoughts. Doesn’t surprise me that Leo was originally cast. Cooper took the role last minute when Leo’s deal fell through. Bad performance. Wish Dafoe had a larger role.
I’m convinced the Academy picked BP noms by randomly drawing names from a hat containing every film made in 2021.

Caught The Laundromat last night after seeing Zik and someone else mention it in a Soderbergh discussion. I thought it was literally a perfect docu-movie.

P.P.S. I just started Ozark recently. Watched S:1,E:4 last night after The Laundromat. Worked out awesome because watching Laundromat first helps understand some of the things explained in that episode perfectly.

A rookie writer and a director who's made 1 low-budget film, handed TCM? Of course they couldnt pull it off. Will watch anyways I guess because it cant be the worst thing Netflix has put in front of my eyes.

LTTP but here's a list i made for my top 10 movies in 2021
1. Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time: Probably the first time an animated movie is my movie of the year. Hell it's the first time an anime is my film of the year and I'm happy it's this one. I think the best sequels are the ones that enhance it's predecessors and this one does that with the rebuild series. I did not like You Can (Not) Redo at all, so color me surprised to find that the sequel fired on all cylinders. It was such a satisfying end and I loved the vibe of the first half where it's basically a Studio Ghibli movie.
2. Licorice Pizza: Shades of Boogie nights mixed with Phantom Thread, I thought this was a heartfelt movie about an imperfect young woman whose lack of growth showcases her ability to not make the greatest choices. It's downright hilarious in some scenes but it definitely get's real at certain parts. The ending was weird and abrupt…but as a whole the movie was absolutely brilliant.
3. No Time to Die: James F*****g Bond. I felt like a kid again seeing this in theaters (My most watched movie of 2021, saw it 5 times.) Like yeah it's not a perfect movie and you could tell it went through development hell, but I didn't care. It had everything I wanted in a Bond film from the aston martin car chase to the weird super villain fortress I was absolutely enthralled. No joke, this might be my favorite bond film. I think Casino Royale is objectively the best, but NTTD just hit all the boxes for me. Also, this was the first Bond movie where I thought Craig played it less straight and gruff and more goofy like Moore which I appreciated a lot. He definitely gave it his all for his last entry.
4. Red Rocket: A legit shame this wasn't nominated for anything from the Academy considering the success Baker had with The Florida Project. Simon Rex turned out with one of the best performances of the year, I'm bummed he didn't get nominated for best actor. He put on a hall of fame dirtbag performance. Anyways Baker is still the best of capturing the spirit and imagery of Modern America. Need to see this again soon.
5. Spider-man No Way Home: "Strong Enough to Have It All...TOO WEAK TO TAKE IT!"
6. C'mon C'mon: I like to look back at ,"I'm Still Here", and thank god that was just a bit and that Joaquin Phoenix is still acting.
7. The Suicide Squad: If not for Spider-Man, this would probably be my favorite superhero flick of the year. The characters were fun and loved how much this reminded me of 80's action movies. "Peacemaker...what a joke.", damn good line and reminded me of Watchmen.
8. The Matrix Ressurrections: This is my Kingdom Hearts. It's borderline incoherent in parts but I had a good time with it. I liked that they didn't even try to make it similar to the original and went in a completely different direction.
9. Drive My Car: I saw this one in 2022 but since it's a 2021 movie I'll slot it in my top 10. I saw it once so I'm just going off the top of my head, it's good. It's very slow but the subject matter was definitely heavy and I thought about it for a good week after seeing it.
10. Zack Snyder's Justice League: Legitimately, his best movie since the Dawn of the Dead remake. I had a blast with this despite hating the epilogue. I think Snyder and his fans should feel vindicated on how good this was, however that epilogue was sobering in realizing giving Snyder too much control could lead to incoherent crap. I liked it a lot, but I doubt the Snyderverse as a whole was gonna be that good.

dune was fine, as a stand alone its got great world-building but it's clearly setting up for more and I need to see part 2 to get a better sense of where I stand on it
