Ouya's Android-based, hackable game console now official

Going to fail because Google isnt directly behind them
Its a tablet in a box
constant changes of Android software and hardware.

im copping its only 100 ones and can be hacked beyond infinity. Its made almost 2 mil on kickstarter on the first day.

I will support.
Edit: I need to see what the platform looks like though.. Is it just a tablet?

If they get picked up by Google then this would have a serious chance.

Hell why not just make a dock for the phone to connect to the tv, a controller and that interface as a app.

the kickstarter is almost at 2 million in 24 hours.

Im thinking that since it splinter off into a new device, these specs can be the base console specs for a while and the phone tablet market continue in it's own direction.

That'll make it easy for devs imo.

What are some other things to look out for you guys think?

What i don't understand is what is the difference between this and just playing your iphone or tablet on a tv???

All i want is to be able to use a controller to play my ipad games like GTA and Max Payne on my tv.  Isn't that what this is basically?  And you can do it with an ipad jailbreak already if you have the hdmi toggle thing to get the ipad to tv.  They have emulators that can be blu-toothed to a ps3 controller.

But i just want it to be easy.  There is the other kickstarter that docks your iphone and puts it on tv with OG NES controllers is that the same?

Or do devs have to make games just for this console?  If that is the case then how is this going to prosper if google won't back it.  can you get anything from the andriod store and play it? or no it won't port right?

But how much is an Ipad initially??? If it's not around 100 bucks then we are comparing apples and oranges.
From what i understand this is totally hackable and this will handle more than just games, but apps in general.
I think at the price it's at, it's a good entry level equipment for people looking into this kind of stuff. I really don't think it can compete with ps3 and xbox 360.  time and time we all complain about big dev releases and how they are getting over on consumers putting out chitty games yearly. I think this thing is in a lane of it's own.

Not everybody that wants to game is into the 200 + range for the console and 60+ for the game.  Plus I believe there is a genre of gamers that is fine with fun games that just have okay graphics.  Not everything about games have to be super real.

I still enjoy some older simpler games that have terrible graphics, but fun gameplay. I've bought games more recently with cutting edge graphics and all the motion blurr crap and am tired of them already...

Amazon used Android Open Source software to create the kindle fire.....Its Android an tablet not supported by Google Software. Look at how that tablet turned out.
Google doesn't need to behind of everything they tell allow oem to use their software, its open source for a reason, just contribute back when your down using it and distributing it.
Yea there are constant changes with Android software and hardware but that technology, things end up being outdated want there are release.

This product seems pleasing ill keep my eye on it.

kindle is backed by the kindle store from amazon

how many people are going to make games specifically for this device that couldnt otherwise be bought and played on any other android device?

and consumers are going to pay 99 bucks just to play indie games on their tv?  not to mention we're talking about a gpu thats weaker than vita and has to render at 1080p

I know that the kindle is back by the Amazon store (thanks for stating the obvious) However its forked version of Android(2.3) that is not designed for tablets. Yea people buy cause of 1 thing CHEAP!

Most devs will probably make for this device. Why? cause other system have walled gardens where indie games are difficult to get on the system that require licenses where the dev has to shell out $$$$ and the revenue they receive won't reach to amount of money to they put into get it on the powerful system.

Consumers what options and this is not for the mass market this is for indie game lover and niche market for hackers. People will buy it cause it inexpensive and buying the game for few dollars is better to them than spending $50-$60 for a game. Can't knock something till you try it.

sorry but the obvious needed to be stated, the kindle is backed by amazons strong ties within the book selling industry, what is this device backed by?

the fact that it runs android really isnt that important, kindle could have run that pice of crap WM7 and still had its kindle store ties

this device has an install base of ZERO (obvious right?)  where as "millions" of other android devices are being activated every day where these same games that cost a couple dollars are already being made, "walled gardens" that show existing markets of content purchasers, the fact that this device is made for "hacking" is no reassurance to content creators other than possibly F2P makers

your right though, this produce is for a niche market, as for knocking it, i remain highly skeptical of a company thats shown nothing more than a prototype motherboard

also, people buy for more than just "cheap", they also buy for functionality, something this device has shown very little of compared to every other "game" capable device

Close to or will reach 5 mil by todays end.

I'm buying one.
It's only $100. The video streaming capabilities alone justify the price.

I just got one. I've spent $100 dollars on drinks in a night at the bar. I've pulled the trig on worse things far in excess of 100 so id it's a flop, it'll just be a nice toy to play around with.

Most people end up spending close to $2,000 per year for the typical "smart" device plus the monthly service.

$100 onetime and a $15 game here and there ain't that bad compared to that.

Just received my Ouya this pass week, finally figured out how to install XBMC to it, it's all good now....
