The NYPD's carte-blanche to beat up New Yorkers without fear of serious punishment apparently applies even when they're not on duty—and their victim is a fellow public servant. The cop who's charged with tackling and pulling the hair of an MTA worker on a subway platform avoided felony charges for the December assault, and the MTA union is pissed.
The Assault Suspect the NYPD Was Looking for Was an NYPD Cop Himself
NYPD officer Mirjan Lolja turned himself in to a Harlem precinct this week after security camera…

As anyone who's encountered the inescapable signs and bus announcements knows, assaulting an MTA worker is a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison. NYPD officer Mirjan Lolja, who allegedly attacked Fatima Futa because he was upset about waiting for the D Train, got a misdemeanor with a maximum one-year sentence.
Pissed Subway Riders Chased Off Cop Who Assaulted MTA Worker: Report
The subway conductor allegedly attacked by NYPD officer Mirjan Lolja on a Bronx subway platform…

MTA workers union president John Samuelsen vented about the "despicable" discrepancy to the New York Daily News on Friday. What would happen, Samulsen asked, if a male MTA worker jumped on a female cop?
"There is a glaring disparate treatment at play with New York's criminal justice system when a police officer is allowed to brutally assault a uniformed TWU Local 100 conductor and walk away with what amounts to a slap on the wrist," said Transport Workers Union Local 100 President John Samuelsen.
"Had one of our conductors viciously assaulted a uniformed female police officer, an arrest would have occurred immediately, and that conductor would be facing substantial felony charges.
"It's despicable," Samuelsen added, "and transit workers will not be silenced in our outrage."
But all hope is not lost: DNAinfo's Murray Weiss reports today that Joel Edouard—the cop who was caught on video stomping on a pot suspect's head in July—will be charged with assault and official misconduct.

You’d be better off providing some stats rather then show me freak occurrences to prove whatever point you’re trying to prove

It's be known the NYPD and MTA misinterpret stats, especially crime and financial stats. I wouldn't share fake news like oversized pigs the size of polar Bear.

Lived in NYC almost my entire life. If you're working in Manhattan, it just doesnt make sense to drive into work. The traffic and hurdle of looking for parking will have you waking up at 6am, just to make into work by 9am.

Now, driving around after 7pm or during the weekends is a totally different ball game. There's a lot to be said about enjoying the freedoms of your own car.

I take the train and I also own a car (with garage parking). You just need to know when to use both.

Am I the only non-new yorker enjoying this thread? I have no idea whats what, but seeing the maps, the arguments of what's where is pretty interesting. :nerd:

Some places are more of a challenge than others, if you happen to live in one of those areas then you SOL, but these boroughs are huge and I can guarantee youuuuu that the majority of the boroughs, parking isn’t as hard as you all are making it seem, I grew up in the Bronx and can pretty much tell you most places where you’ll find it challenging to park, in comparison to the size of the Bronx, these areas don’t make up even a third of the borough.

Bronx a cake walk for parking compared to da heights.

Most reasonable statement given thus far.
If you can say it a bit louder for the people in the back, my kind sir it will be greatly appreciated.

this thread is not a waste of time, it's the best new thread in a long time
