Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

It wasn't a lot of truth. It was a 2 minute video of him saying no one is original. and saying everybody is sampling and redoing older *****. Only thing he said that mattered is that those who are redoing older hits is that they need to cut a check.

Yea ok then

ima have to disagree considering pusha t sold 76k first week

asap rocky sold 74k first week
lil baby sold 71k first week
6ix9ine sold 59k first week
lil pump sold 45k first week

etc

Pusha ain’t boom bap because he can rap well :lol. Don’t forge this ***** came in the game on Neptune beats and raps over Kanye beats now.

And none of the artist you listed below are similar to each other in anyway or contrasting to boom bap for the post to even make sense.

Throw the whole post away. Start over.

Definitely agree with that.

I don't know why people act like the south started dropping music in 2005 or something. The south been making contributions to hip hop and dropping classics since the early-mid 90's with Geto Boys, UGK, 8Ball & MJG, 3-6 Mafia.

and then act like from 2005 and on the south ruined hip hop. TI, Jeezy, Wayne, Ross, Gucci have been making great music in that time period. Yeah it's been some trash artists but it's been some great music too. Was the south supposed to stop moving cuz NY fell off?

It's trash rappers everywhere, especially now. The south, NY, wherever. It's also a lot of great music out if you ignore the BS. I'm too the point now where I'm not even giving these moist looking, tatted face lil suchandsuch a listen. I got more than enough harmonize trap music from Future, Quavo and Thug. And as far as the young dudes I got Kodak and NBA Youngboy.

Because you're totally leaving out your other side of the south.

Nobody wanna hear any form of boom bap

And there are plenty of younger NY artists who have a fresh New York sound. It's just not mainstream friendly

Maybe a lot of young people don't want to hear boom bap

like who.

i like jay critch.

and meh. 8 out of 10 from drake new album is boom bap and its fire.

i think it was @VARNELL HILL who said before that a lot of the beats drake rap on/Boi-1da and 40 beats are actually boom bap. and when u look at those lord knows (just blaze), _ AM/PM in Toronto/Calabassas, the lyrical esque tracks he always closes albums with those are great cinematic boom bap beats.

I like this guy from ny his name is Wati Heru or some **** he had a hard neptunes sounding song a few years ago i made a thread but no one really felt it lol.

There are a ton of rappers from New York releasing music, you just probably wouldn't know they're from New York upon first listening.

I was 18 when Soulja Boy came out so I wouldn't say he stopped young people from listening to Jay or Dipset.

People took Soulja Boy for what he was, it was fun for parties and that's it. Now if you was 15 or younger when Soulja Boy came out you probably wasn't a Jay or Dipset or Lox anyway. Soulja would connect you more cuz it was catchy and a dance.

I agree on Zay and the whole 808 mafia though. Metro came in and he's like lil brother to 808 mafia and it's some Zaytoven sons out here like Buddah Bliss, Cassius Jay, Stackboy Twan. Jeezy, Gucci, Waka and Wayne influenced rappers and now we see a bunch watered down parody versions of them.

This, that Soulja Boy and Jay-Z/Dip Set talk made absolutely no sense. They weren't in the same lane or had the same audience.

Nah. Premo still out here making great beats. Harry Fraud uses forms of boom bap and he's great.

People like Deringer and 183rd also

ima have to disagree considering pusha t sold 76k first week

asap rocky sold 74k first week
lil baby sold 71k first week

People always exaggerate what these new dudes are selling

Yes but she would havr to been searchingg her name on Twitter to even find that tweet

Like not even the @ version or hashtag. Its like the equivalent of googling your name but you getting up to date live results of ppl talking about you.

That's the funny thing about it. That she cared that much. If you care that much you need to have a one sided experience with social media. Not trying to find out what people are saying about you. After ten years she should know some people are going to like you and some aren't.

That lets everyone know she knows she's cold out here, because she's searching for peoples reactions.

Anybody read/listen to J Prince book?

Any good?
It was cool I just wish he let someone else read it :lol. He read that **** like that was his first time hearing the story. I didn’t know he was that deep in boxing.

On another note, how j prince take his pics always crack me up. Idk if hebpointing a gun at the camera or he doesn’t know what else to do with his hands

1) If 'Daytona' isn't a boom bap sounding album I'm gonna need yall to tell me what it is

2) The artists I used as examples don't have to be similar, their 2018 releases are not boom-bap albums.

The post I quoted said "nobody wants to listen to any boom bap," I consider Daytona to be "boom bap" and it sold more than the non-boom bap albums listed, which has to mean that there's still a niche audience that listens to it, or that there is a demand for it. However, It means nothing if y'all can explain how Daytona isn't a boom bap album.

Pusha raps over a variety of beats but it's lear as day that NOTHING about his music is in tune with the production or melodies of popular young artist today

The whole nobody wants to hear this sound argument is foolish, No a certain demo of young ****** don't wanna hear anything that doesn't have a repetitive hook & 808's, that doesn't account for everyone. Hell Kendrick put out an album that was damn near Jazz & was one of the biggest rappers in the World.

point being that there still a very big market for artist who don't cater to that trap sound.

Disgruntled old *** NYer hating on the young southern drip :stoneface:waah waah waah cry me a river ***** I'm lil baby :emoji_rowboat:

The irony of this post is this energy is directed at your boy.

And of course....”who run it” craze. You gotta let the feelings go mane :lol

Not really. What he's saying has been going on for YEARS what Trouble was saying has been going on for YEARS ..

YOU just try to make it some simplistic "old nyers hating" nonsense when basically all the legends from all over don't mess with the trash you champion

You out still still calling people regionally bias who grew up in the ringtone rap era

Lazy.

That’s the beauty of hip hop today. There is a lane for everybody. More Mature artists with ranging sounds have fan bases too. As long as you not washed and in tune....you got an ear. Pusha, Ross, Kiss, Fab, Chainz etc are 40+ and will sell 60K plus’s first week every time. Hell, e-40 still doing his thing.

Never before in rap have we seen this many rappers with this level of longevity. You got ***** that came in the game in the late 90s at varying dregrees of commercial success that figured a way, stayed relevant and continue to make great music.

My response was dude that tried to say Pusha was “boom bap”. He’s not that specifically.

whoever made future only spit 9 words on blue tint is the real MVP. Just enough to be a nice lil change of tone but also not enough to ruin the song :hat :hat :hat

A lot of dudes are regionally and generationally biased. And that’s ok because that’s existed in hip hop forever. It’s natural. It might be both, some might be more than others. Some are more at peace with what existed in their time over time.

And Trouble word is Gospel now? What he said is a lot of ***** don’t be talking bout ****, then proceed to list guys like YFN Lucci as “spitting real”....who I’ve been championing....and YOU specifically called trash and said “sounds like everybody else”. So which is it? :lol

You gotta realize rap is in a great space right now. The south got the ball and been holding it down. They’ve put out amazing artist and trash in between. The sheer volume alone will show you that.

What's even funnier is that he's on record saying that the A$AP boys are some of the few that actually got their business together with him

I agree with that, but you & i know that people completely ignore that & act as if your record ain't played in the club or on one of those spotify playlist... that your fanbase doesn't exist or somehow a lot of these artist are irrelevant. people are still operating under the assumption that hiphop only exist amongst the 15-25 age gap, when in reality its wide ranging as ever.

No it's not.

The south is producing a bunch of ******** other regions are copying.

It's not lyrical and is a terrible influence on the youth.

And older artist have longevity now, because they're growing with the music and can't listen to the ******** young people put out.

I’m sure they did get their business right with them. As much as they interpolated :lol. Drake too. This is moreso to his creativity comment. ***** been sampling 3-6 for years. Some of the bigges records last year came from that. Bickenhead, Plane Jane, It ain’t safe etc.

What we’re seeing in rap right now is the 20 year old rule and sampling. Things get old enough....but not far removed from the consciousness enough for sampling. Nostalgia elements kick in. And it’s BEEN happening in hip hop since it’s inception.

“Take hits from the 80s, and make it sound so crazy”.

Same thing in Movies and film. OJ Doc, Biggie & Pac, Waco Doc tv show. There’s a lot of entertainment content centered around major events from the mid 90s now.

90s southern rap and 2010s southern rap are so different, no need to even compare the two. South killed Hip Hop, lyrics didn't matter anymore once the south took over Rap.

Atlanta specifically puts out more garbage than any other region on some attack of the clones type **** this is a fact. Ive had people in the industry tell me to my face that talent doesn't matter it's all about what kind of canvas they can create, what type of artist they can "build". The attention is here so it's easier for a anyone with a small bag to "pop". I've literally had execs ask me if I wanted to rap and how they would market me lol. Probably not even supposed to be saying this **** but I really don't care.

The process is literally.

1. Get bag from hustling/lawsuit/saving
2. Hang out at the poppin spots and meet someone who's "in"
3. Cop a beat that sounds similar to the last **** that popped from the city
4. Use the same generic flow and apply it to said beat
5. Use some of that bag to peddle song in strip clubs
6. Get the video shot
7. The dude that you met that's "in" will supply the director, people in the video, and the **** that you never met before
8. Let the machine work
9. Get the tape made, sign a 360, and have a summer or two poppin with a few of your singles in rotation
10. Fade to Oblivion

Atlanta created and will always be the capital of microwave rap.

I didn't mention Outkast cuz that's the obvious and there's people that say **** like "Outside of dungeon family the south is whatever whatever"

The irony of this post is this energy is directed at your boy.
