Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

This is pretty much it. He looks like an Arabian Pro Wrestler ever since he got that beard and the Dr. Miami stimulus package and because of that (and even up until that point in like 2016) all those racial groups you named loved him because they sorta saw themselves in him/lived vicariously thru him. Drake is the first rapper that they can subconsciously relate to like that, even if it's only off appearance; along with all the other **** Drake made okay lol.

If he was super pro black and always speaking on black issues, that dynamic is changed. He has to pick who he's really talking to.

On the flip side when you put it into perspective, he's probably the first since Bad-era Michael to have that worldwide and almost 'race-less' reach. But the flipside of that is not really being looked at as a "black" artist, which Michael didn't have to deal with because no matter how wild he began to look, a large portion of black people had memories of him as a kid with the afro and bell pepper nose up til Thriller era; he had 15-20 years of being ingrained in "our" culture.

Think of Drake as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson of music. A ***** named Dwayne f’n Johnson....who rose to fame being a part of a pro black wrestling group...and you got white people today who will tell you they don’t see him as black :lol. And some black people don’t either. Box office star. It’s an interesting convo.

Rock basically doesn’t claim being black though. He claims he’s Polynesian.

Did they ask cam about Hell Rell Hahahaha Hahahaha ?

Yeah, he said he cool with him and JR Writer. Spoke a little bit but there's no beef.

The Rock for the longest didn't refer to himself as black, he didn't want that on his resume at all back in the 90s and early 00s.

The Rock himself has alot to do with that.

some people just seem way too invested in his (or many artists’) character, social media has opened that up for us
But on the flip side, you Drake fans are “way too invested” as well. Like ya really take it personal when people say anything that’s not slurping son. Ya kinda make it easier for the Drake haters to keep going in on him pause. I can go into the Drake thread and see a bunch of dudes with the “why are you in this thread if you don’t like him?” “leave him alone” type of ****. Dying to defend a ***** who you have no ties to. Hope ya defend your own blood like that.

what are you talking about? I’m probably the only drake fan (in this thread) thats level headed, maybe others were stanning but you go into any other artist thread and see that same behavior. You don’t see people crying in the Future thread?, or having comas in the weeknd thread? I really only frequent those other two and see the same if not worse behavior in there. It’s just pinpointed to Drake/his fans cause its a easy/cool target in y’alls minds

Leave it to the rock he poly. That ***** stopped being black the day he stopped being d LO “my neck hurt” brown side kick.

:smh:

Kurupt said he moved from Philly to CA in middle school or high school

Just read the comments, that **** is funny. Comments said Daz from Mississippi and Xzibit from Detroit, who knows.

Game’s delivery made that **** way funnier than it really was

Daz and Snoop are cousins. Their family is originally from Mississippi. I've heard Xzibit in a lot of interviews say his family was in the military so they moved a lot and like Kurupt in his teen years they moved to Cali.

Wasn’t meaning YOU specifically, I mean the drake fans on here in general. A lot of caping for son. And we kill the Future stans when they come around with that “Super Fire Marshall Astronaut Pluto Hendrix” slurping they do too. :lol

Mike from Gary, Indiana. He from the MUD! He’s a mud baby.

It’s not even about Drake and the racial landscape really. He’s an opportunistic musician. Period. Point blank. Conversely, black people would be hypocritical to try and shame him about being mixed. Mixed kids do go through a lot of identity crisis so, it would be disrespectful to say he hasn’t gone through any tough times.

But strictly from a musical perspective, he gets to many passes. But then you realize, most his fans, and the whole landscape of music has changed.

it’s like people can have this schtick and joke about J.Cole being “boring” but let someone critic Drake and it’s “you’re a hater”

I think X lived most his early life in New Mexico
