Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Current era sampling is so damn lazy. I’d rather artists just use the original track if they’re gonna do mess like this. Feel like Saweetie is the first one that ignited this style of sampling. This is a far cry from the stuff Diddy doing.

Sweetie def. What was that, like 2018? But Yung Berg has a lot to do with this too. And the good old “Nostalgia cycle”etc.

But these new Nostalgia rips and artists… barely even know the music, so it doesn’t connect and they can’t be creative with it :lol. Like that girl Kali, that made the Ludacris area code remake, not knowing that Ludacris made the song. Even though she used lyrics and a beat :lol. They’re running ads for remakes of old songs on YouTube right now, with new artists. Next time I see it on a video, I’ll post it here. It’s sad to see

NLE Choppa has always been terrible. Still shocked he was able to have a lane.

I could get not get on that Shawty Lo/D4L wave. I just happened to be on that side of town with dudes that rocked with it. I understood the respect he had in the streets tho. I agree with TIP, considering direction he was headed in at that time. Would’ve been nice for the city, but he didn’t need it. I actually think the beef worked better for him. It’s not easy to withstand a beef where you have a large number of people on your side of town disclaiming you.

This album basically started a movement

RIP Rawkus

I really enjoyed Funcrusher Plus but that was about it from Rawkus with only
a couple exceptions...I was kind of anti-backpack rap...Rawkus wasn't my thing.
Wasn't my movement.

For context, I guess between DJ Stretch & Bobbito - I fell more into the Stretch camp although Operation Doomsday is a classic if that makes sense.

The only other Rawkus I messed with was Big L's posthumous 2000 album released
through Rawkus (if that even counts) and a Rawkus mixtape that I've still never seen
posted anywhere.

The mixtape has a Mos Def freestyle on it which starts like this...

"...The whole world gone know Mos.
Stand out like Shaq in the low post.
Stand out like goal post - I'm so dope...
My ish gone be bangin when my baby girls is grow folks..."

I was never a big Mos Def fan either... but I wonder if (some of) those lyrics/freestyle
made it onto one of his albums? :nerd: cause it is fire.
