Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Andre 3000 also said older guys shouldn’t rap. I disagreed with it. There’s a lot of life that happens after 50, stuff still worth putting on wax.

Beyond that, the genre as itself is still evolving. Jay & everyone from his class are the first of their kind. I don’t think you should be putting a box or any kind of limit on a relatively young art form.

The funny thing about this is it's dudes 30+ saying this and tying to age shame. You aren't young. I think this is resulting from listening to someone who doesn't make appropriate music, and makes music for 19 year old girls.

I had this mentality when I was 12. I thought when you grow up and you evolve to listening to jazz and R&B.

I mean in life 30-40 is young. Especially if you take care of yourself.

But this mindset that at _____ age you shouldn't rap is weird. antidope antidope is just having a stanly moment because as already pointed out his fav rapper is 40 doing songs with Sex Red and making music for 22 year girls on tik tok.

Nobody would think a 35 year old talking to a 19 year old is cool. It's not young. It's only young in the fact you still should have more than half your life left.

This is like how 15-20 years ago Game, Cam and Jim tried the old thing at Jay and all of them are near 50 now still rapping.

What's Aubrey going to be doing in five/ten years?

  • No one said I was young. I'm not young. I'm almost at 2000 of the 4000 weeks.
  • There are societal caps on almost everything
  • I don't think anyone should be making music at 50. The same way you guys think people shouldn't be making certain kind of music at 40. Which is fair.

Why 50? What's your fixation with the number? The retirement age in music/entertainment must be sooner than any other field?

Ross gonna have a field day once he gets a hold of this. Talk about Karma

I think more 50 year olds should make music, especially if they are able to do it at a high level. I don’t wanna hear a 50 year old talking about young people stuff though.

Hip hop as an art form just celebrated 50 years not too long ago, what if the first person to paint was told they had to stop at 50, the art form of painting wouldn’t have evolved..

A 20 year old rapper talking about what resonates with other 20 year olds, shouldn’t necessarily resonate with my 40 year old self.
