saw this on facebook...

I'm not even mad it's white chicks. I think a lot of ya'll are missing the point. It could be three black dudes for all I care. The problem is we have an overt attempt at disrespecting MLK and his legacy and then we have people acting like its ok. I'm not losing any sleep over these broads I don't know and will never see but it is very discomforting to know that there are people out there, some of whom are black, who aren't willing to take the simplest of stands by denouncing the kind of ignorance that some greater men were willing to die for.

wow.. if this is real.. the girl sitting to the left of the girl with the gun pointing her direction is trippin.. smh..

i can't even be mad, im a black man who smokes L's, wears backwards fitted hats and owns a pistol. im sure mlk would rather these girls playfully make fun of some stereotypes than have some real hate in their hearts for black folk like they prolly would have back in 64.

I mean... it doesn't say anywhere that the girls are trying to "be black".  If you see that from the picture, then you must understand that drugs, guns, and flashing money are part of the image of black people in America.

I'd work on changing that.

People stereotype Latina females living in New York, AND Brazilian women all the time and I don't get mad. People like to make jokes at other peoples' expense, choose to ignore them if it offends you.

To me this would be like if someone posted a picture of a Brazilian transvestite porn actor/ess and wrote "happy birthday to Ernesto Geisel" under it. Oh well.

this is a bad look for them, but I'm asian, and if i saw these girls wearing nerdy glasses, holding up math textbooks and ping pong paddles and making their eyes like slits and saying "HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR!" i would just shake my head at their ignorance, but no need to get insulted or offended by their stupidity.
but the fact that they put the MLK part as the caption crossed the line smh

There are very few white females that Ive never heard say something that was blatantly racist, especially after getting to know them and they get comfortable around me.
So if I met 5 black men at my school that have all been to jail, 100% of all black men in the world have been to jail?

EXACTLY.

I'm not here demanding that people get mad and do something. I'm just saying, you guys are defending these girls like you owe them something.

You know what I did? I looked at the picture, thought to myself "that's not cool" and that was it. Until I read this thread, and was shocked to see the responses some of ya'll had. At first I played it off like "well they're not all Black I wouldn't think they'd get how this is offensive," but then I started seeing Black people on here acting like that was actually OK as though they'd condone that type of behavior if they were around it. That is startling, scary, and saddening, and being as this is a message board, I figured I'd speak my mind on what I was seeing.

Ya'll are on here saying "Oh if you say something or speak you're mind, you're only proving them right!" That's only if you're as ignorant as those girls think all Blacks are. And I'm talking about more than just this instance, but situations like this that arise in person as well, because this is symptomatic of you guys just letting this sort of behavior fly right in front of you. Proving them WRONG would be actually having a logical discussion with these girls, asking them questions as to what brings them to the conclusions that it would be a good idea to do this. Even if they don't want to have that discussion, at least you would have proven them completely irrational in their worldview. But I don't even think all that is even necessary. Even I wouldn't say that you should do all of what I just put in this paragraph. That's the far end of the spectrum, and a real and logical response to that tired excuse.
