SCAMMED.

If he got a chargeback he might as well take the L. Some POS hit me with one and I had screenshots from emails of him THANKING me for the merchandise and then later saying that the chargeback was a mistake (yet he wouldn't cancel it) and paypal still sided with him
:{ Paypal straight scums.

So my friend actually went to sneakertalk's old PMs and screen-shotted the tracking # and gave it to paypal...:x :|

I once bought some fake XI back in 09 and I filed a claim with paypal. I even typed up my own form and had a employee from Niketown to fill it out and point out the flaws. I faxed it to paypal with the employees info and Niketown info. The seller said the employee was unqualified to judge the shoes cause Nikes and Jordans were two separate entities and brands. Smh x 1000. That argument won him the claim. Back then they only allow you to have 2-3 responses while paypal investigate so I wasn't unable to defend myself. Needless to say paypal took his side :x x1000. Since then I haven't sold or bought anything from eBay for like 3 years.

Seems like your friend either accepted a gift payment, shipped to an unconfirmed address, or both.
Looks like there ISNT a fee, so it might've been gift.

However, unconfirmed or not - Friend asked the rep working for paypal if it was okay to ship as long as he had proof of tracking (which he did/does), and she said okay :|.

That's on your friend then man. I know it sucks, but he should've followed the rules.

They have them in place to protect the seller.

When in doubt, call PayPal instead of sending emails or sitting and hoping the case goes your way.

Someone who bought my Big Bangs filed a chargeback a month after I shipped em. He claimed someone "stole his credit card" and that he didn't buy em. I sent PayPal the shipping/tracking info and then called them. Ended up talking to a guy who went through all the info I gave and ended the case right there.

He's been calling paypal...They said they'll look into it...Even the call where the employee said it was okay to ship.

If he accepted a gift payment, I'm confused. I don't have experience, wouldn't be okay with a gift payment for goods but...

He can still file a chargeback with his CC on that? Or was it strictly through PayPal?

Either way, even if you friend shows proof of shipping or delivery, isn't he not protected if it's a gift? There's no exchange of goods essentially in PayPal's eyes.

I'm trying to sell my Zenbook and got two texts today saying they would paypal me money if I shipped to their cousin in Chicago and Arizona. Probably to pull this same stunt. Unfortunately, I have no advice for you OP but, this has clarified that we can indeed be scammed even with paypal.

Most definitely you can.

DO NOT go through with it. I personally do not shipped unless it's verfied, confirmed address and got their personal number (seeing an iMessage # puts my heart at a bit of ease).

I take pics of the items in the box, being taped up, at the post office, and of the tracking # for what it's worth.

Gift CAN be undone by CHARGEBACK, they just call their CC company. :{.

UPDATE: PayPal listened to the call and said it was their fault for instructing and giving him the okay to send.

They gave him back his money, however, that individual is still a scammer, be careful NT.

Take precautions!
