why is DMX never mentioned in "all time greats" converstaions? NOT saying GOAT conversations, but just "all time great" please discuss...

Because he fell off.

Now he's remembered as a drug addict and someone who can't stay out of jail.

But that's my opinion, though.

i feel what ou're saying but does that take away from the music he made, i think all of his albums are pretty good to very good.

i think dmx was a gimmick... but thats just me...

he was just barking and spitting random grimey $%@+... dude wasnt lyrical or anything... he was like a new york version of jeezy or some $%@+...

Nah that doesn't take away from his music at all.

I hear people still say DMX is good.

But as of right now no one cares about him anymore so he wouldn't get that recognition to be considered a great artist.

Well all i know is It's Dark and Hell Is Hot is a Classic! and we mention DMX every now and then around my way
It's Dark and Hell Is Hot (1998)

Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood (1998)

...And Then There Was X (1999)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...And_Then_There_Was_X
The Great Depression (2001)

Grand Champ (2003)
Year of the Dog...Again (2006)

3 things happened to X...da drugs, leaving def jam, and da hiatus...between 2001-2006 ALOT happened in da world let alone da music world...staying idle so long froze his career, and X

was never da type to make mixtapes to keep da streets hot.

def jam was taylor made for him and he left over jay-z running it.....son should've weathered da storm.

WOOOOW, that's just buffoonery now. You're now on the same boat as Harlem with all his Drake's album is a classic and Optimus with all his Drake slurping. The three of y'all just can't be taken seriously

I love how there's no medium here, you're either a lyrical beast, or Jeezy-esque.

This. DMX was a mid tier lyrical rapper, but his inflections and delivery were maximized by his raw delivery andAppproach to da mic. His first 3 albums are classic.

if DMX wasn't on crack he would be on some Jay-Z $#^+ did anyone see that behind the music joint
dude was on hard from 14

He made a lot of wack music and his flow was choppy
Not an all time great
A few gems though
And certainly better than most rappers

So true.

DMX was the KING of the late 90's. Nobody was running rap like him. He ran the billboard charts & more. (Let's not even get into music sales

Great albums (debateable classics) DMX has to be mentioned as one of the greatest rappers/artists of our time because of the commercial success, and quality of albums....

QFT. my exact thoughts...

Y'all N's be ****ing on Time...but he's not that far off...

I loved DMX as anybody in the 90s but I can see what he's saying...

Even though I think that's who he really is, his music does come off as gimmicky, with all that barking, yelling and praying and @!+#...

I don't think the drugs +#$#@* his career up as much as people say (I mean, dude was always getting high)...

I think it was inability to adapt that +#$#@* him up...

Dude made the same album over and over again, with each one being slightly worse (only 2 of those albums were really good)...

This N was basically the 50 cent of his time...

Just compare him to Jay...there was once a time where X was unquestionably hotter than Jay...

One rapper was able to adapt to the times the other couldn't...
