Who's seen it? It wasn't the greatest movie of all time but it sure did make you think about the things in your life that you are or could be ashamed of yet still do because you crave and desire certain emotions to be fulfilled.

Just wanted to open this thread for anyone that has seen the movie and would like to discuss it.

OR

Let this thread be for admitting your addictions that you are ashamed of. You can explain why too (why addicted and why ashamed), if you want.

Also, I'd recommend seeing it. *Warning* It's NC-17 for a reason...

Damn near impossible to find this movie in theaters. Last week, there was 1 theater showing it in Chicago. Cmon man.

This is an adult movie. It's not for teenagers, the plot and theme of the movie might not be something you're interested in and you certainly won't be able to identify with the movie. Just a heads up, but who knows you still might like it. It's somewhat of an art drama... so I can just see a good amount of individuals not liking it, especially not teenie boppers.  It's NC-17 because of the nudity and sexually explicit content/theme of the movie. Has some pretty intense scenes some of which can be compared to softcore porn.

where can we find this?
It's a limited release I know that it plays in SF, LA, Chi, and NY. Not sure where else.

I'm not going to go through the work of trying to find a place that's showing it.  I'll try to find a copy of a screener or something.  I've been wanting to see this.

Looks promising. I like both Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan.

I was only planning on making one more trip to the theaters for the year, but I'll go see this as well. A theater near me is showing it here in NYC.

my internet skills are failing me can anyone pm me with some help as to locating the film in person online w/e

ughhh the content and reviews of this movie got me drooling. waiting on a future major release.... the thing is films like this i like to absorb and see in isolation

I saw this on opening night. This is definitely an art house movie, not for the average moviegoer. Steve McQueen really did a great job capturing the desperation of the main character. I thought both Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan were amazing.

It's NC-17 because of full frontal nudity (male and female) and probably all the sex scenes in the movie.

I agree only certain individuals will be able to appreciate specific details in the film. There were a handful of scenes that were very... gripping. Michael Fassbender did an incredible job, the subtle facial expressions to convey the emotion.

During the entire movie you get the sense of helplessness. It's interesting and depressing, and makes you want to reflect on your life and your addictions.

I want to see it, but I dont know anyone else that would be interested in it

Yeah, the sense of helplessness was definitely cultivated throughout. Steve McQueen did a great job of making the viewer aware of what was going on very early on. I'm not sure I can really eloquently describe it. He established Michael Fassbender's problem very early (first five to ten minutes) and every instance after he was able to convey it in a subtle way. The viewer got the full power of what was going on with very little being said or even shown.

One of my favorite scenes that really showed that desperation was the very uncomfortable scene of him descending into the gay club (was that even a club? seemed more like a sex dungeon

.) That was, to me, rock bottom as far as his addiction went.

The beginning of the film and the climatic point were both very strong at conveying to the viewer what was going on, without a mistake, and how exactly the feelings of the characters manifested into their physical actions.

That scene was certainly meant to portray him hitting rock bottom and it showed it very well. His self loathing in that scene as he thought of the entire night was powerful. One of my other favorite scenes was when he took his date (black woman from office) to the hotel and couldn't perform. I believe this was after he threw away all of the porn and it really seemed like he was trying to start anew and do what he thought was right, but he just couldn't. He wanted to be in the relationship, wanted to commit and have that emotional intimacy and love (even though his actions still showed that he didn't know how to express that properly. You don't still just take your potential love interest to a hotel to eff), but the thought of emotional attachment was too much for him and he couldn't perform. It was very depressing.

My boy just got out of film school and he said this one was a great flick he always puttin me on good stuff I have to see this now

Gonna watch it eventually.. not too happy about the reviews, still want to see it.. been hearing good things about Fassbender's acting at least.

God, yes. That entire scenario was incredibly depressing. He did seem like he was trying to turn a new leaf and "get over" his addiction but he didn't seem capable of doing so. He just seemed completely powerless. He wanted to shoot for intimacy instead of sex and he couldn't get past it mentally.

I hate that girl in the screen cap with a passion.

She ruined the Wall Street sequel for me and she ruined Drive for me. Hate her.
