Jamaal Magloireappears to be the most likely option for the Heat in their search to find a big man, according to South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

The Heat added to its depth at center Friday by agreeing to terms with free agent Jamaal Magloire. Although terms were not immediately available, Heat President Pat Riley said earlier in the day the team was looking for a player willing to take the veteran's minimum. While the Heat has depth at center, its starting job remains in flux. South Florida Sun-Sentinel

No one really knows the details around Monta Ellis' ankle injury, other than he hurt it working out. That has the Warriors a bit worried, according to sources. They are checking out his story behind the scenes. Contra Costa Times

Monta Ellis told the Warriors last Thursday that he had injured his left ankle working out in Jackson, Miss. But as of Wednesday, the day of the surgery - which will have Ellis out for three months minimum - not even Chris Mullin knew exactly what happened. No he-landed-on-someone's-ankle. No foot-got-stuck-changing-directions. Mullin's only response was that "I was told he was working out in Jackson." Contra Costa Times

Ellis' injury was pretty bad, which has team officials, according to sources, question whether he actually sustained such an injury working out or playing pick-up. Ellis had surgery on Wednesday in Alabama to repair a torn deltoid ligament in his left ankle. He also sustained a severe high ankle sprain. Contra Costa Times

According to team sources, the Warriors have questions about the explanation Ellis gave them regarding how he sustained the injury. The team has launched an investigation, dispatching athletic trainer Tom Abdenour to Jackson, Miss., to take a look at Ellis. Ellis informed the Warriors last Thursday that he had injured his left ankle working out in Jackson. Contra Costa Times

Ellis signed a six-year, $66 million contract late last month, making him the team's highest-paid player. NBA contracts include clauses that exclude certain activities (e.g., motorcycle riding). If the Warriors find Ellis in violation, they could fine him, suspend him or terminate his contract. Contra Costa Times

San Antonio guard Manu Ginobili, who helped Argentina in its bronze-medal run in the Beijing Olympics this month, will have surgery to repair a ligament injury in his left ankle. Spurs officials said Friday that Ginobili will have surgery next week. The team will announce a timeline for his return after the surgery. Ginobili said an MRI of his ankle showed no improvement from a previous exam about two months ago. He led the Spurs in scoring last season, averaging 19.5 points in the regular season, and won the league's award as outstanding sixth man. AP/Seattle Times

Patrick Ewing said his number would come out of retirement if his son, Patrick Jr., ever became a Knick. Time to take No. 33 down from the rafters, then. On Friday the Knicks acquired Ewing Jr. from the Houston Rockets for the rights to notorious 1999 first-round pick Frederic Weis. Ewing Jr., who graduated this spring from Georgetown, his father's alma mater, was selected by the Sacramento Kings in the second round of the NBA draft in June. He then was traded to the Rockets as part of the Ron Artest deal earlier this month. NY Newsday

And Walsh might not be done with the roster before camp opens in Saratoga Springs Sept. 30. There is talk that the Memphis Grizzlies have discussed the idea of acquiring Zach Randolph and his hefty contract, which would give the Knicks much-needed salary-cap relief for 2010. And Stephon Marbury's future with the team remains a mystery that might not be solved until camp begins and coach Mike D'Antoni can assess his effectiveness in his system. NY Newsday

However, Stephon Marbury, despite dropping to 200 pounds, continues to be on thin ice and is a candidate for the waiver wire. NY Post

With the move, the Rockets have 14 players under contract and hope to sign Dikembe Mutombo and Carl Landry. Houston Chronicle

Kobe Bryant meets the Queen. Of daytime television, that is. Gold medalists Bryant, Michael Phelps and Nastia Liukin, along with approximately 150 other U.S. Olympic team members, will be on the season premiere of "The Oprah Winfrey Show." Winfrey plans to tape the show at Chicago's Millennium Park next Wednesday. Orange County Register

The lastremaining chance of rekindling the Seattle SuperSonics as they were in 2007-2008 just closed, with former owner Harold Schultz on Friday dropping his lawsuitagainst Clay Bennett and the Professional Basketball Club, according to a report in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

In a letter to his partners, Schultz said two recent rulings by District Judge Marsha Pechman made his case more difficult, and as aresult, "our legal team and I no longer believe we can be successful with this litigation."

Schultz was trying to unwind the sale of the team to the Professional Basketball Club, who in turn moved the team away from Seattle toOklahoma City. Schultz claims he was misled, and that Bennett's group were never serious about keeping the team in Seattle.

"We are pleased to now be able to move on," Bennett said in a statement. "We look forward to an exciting future of NBAbasketball in Oklahoma City."
