Cleveland Planned To Target J.R. Smith?[/h2]

If the Cavaliers weren't able totrade for point guard Mo Williams, they planned to try and make a move for restricted free agent J.R. Smith, according to Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Williams was their first choice, but they liked the idea of a sign-and-trade with the Nuggets for Smith as well.
Smith ended up re-signing with the Nuggets for about $16 million over five years.

Knicks Could Send Randolph ToGrizzles?[/h2]

The Knicks are reportedly stilldiscussing a deal with the Grizzles that would send forward Zach Randolph to Memphis, according to Newsday.
Such a move would give New York the salary cap room needed to make a play on the free agent market in 2010.
Earlier this summer, a deal between the Grizzles and Knicks was rumored to be on the table, with Darko Milicic reportedly a part of the package New Yorkwould receive.

Baron's Latest Blog Endorses Obama[/h2]

Baron Davis's latest blog entryhas showcased his support for Barack Obama in this fall's presidential election, according to Yardbarker.
Davis wrote on Saturday about how inspired he was by Obama's speech on Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention.
"Hope ya'll watched Barak Obama's acceptance speech Thursday night. If he didn't move you maybe the sound was turned down," Daviswrote. "When it was over I felt like I was ready to go out to Venice Beach and start registering people to vote right then at 9pm. We've got to showup on Nov. 4th to vote this man into the White House!!! FOR REAL!"

Marbury Has Dropped To 200 Pounds[/h2]

Point guard Stephon Marbury hasdropped to 200 pounds in an attempt to get in shape this offseason, but he still appears to be on thin ice, according to New York Post.
The Knicks have sixteen players under contract, which means they must get rid of one player prior to the start of the season.
Marbury is still considered a candidate to be cut at this point, although recently-acquired forward Patrick Ewing Jr. is not a lock to make the teameither.

Cavs Interested In Lorenzen Wright[/h2]

The Cavaliers are looking for a bigman and have had discussions with free agent center Lorenzen Wright, according to Cleveland Plain Dealer.
Wright played in only 18 games last season, but has a big body and is a veteran presence.
If Cleveland ends up signing him, he'll likely fill the role that Joe Smith played prior to the Mo Williams trade this summer.

Heat Turn Attention Towards PointGuard[/h2]

After signing veteran center JamaalMagloire, the Heat have turned their attention towards adding a point guard to their roster, according to Miami Herald.
Miami was among several teams that visited Chicago recently to view a workout by free agent guard Shaun Livingston.
Pat Riley also said this week that the Heat remain in negotiations with restricted free agent Chris Quinn, who had been extended a one-year, $1 millionqualifying offer this summer.

Blazers Establish Duckworth MemorialScholarship[/h2]

In partnership with The OregonCommunity Foundation, the Portland Trail Blazers have established the Kevin Duckworth Memorial Scholarship Fund, according to NBA.com.

The Oregon Community Foundation works with individuals, families, businesses and organizations to create charitable funds to support the community causesthey care about. Through these funds OCF awards more than $55 million annually in grants and scholarships.

Deng To Play For Britain InEurobasket Qualifying[/h2]

Bulls forward Luol Deng will play forGreat Britain in their European Championship qualifying games after the national associated bumped up the insurance to cover his NBA contract, according toAssociated Press.
British Basketball had been struggling to pay the insurance for the 23-year-old Sudanese-born player, who moved to London as a child.
"We see no medical reason why the NBA insurers have demanded this new element to Luol's insurance," director Chris Spice said. "Theirdemand came so late and out of the blue, we have had no choice."
Deng is Britain's biggest basketball star.
"We are convinced that this is the best outcome for British Basketball, is the best use of our funds in the circumstances and highlights our commitmentto make Great Britain one of the top basketball nations in the world by 2012," Spice said.

Warriors Doubt How Ellis Injured Ankle[/h2]

The Warriors are in the process ofchecking the story of how guard Monta Ellis injured his ankle, according to Contra Costa Times.
Monta told the team last Thursday that he had injured his left ankle working out in Jackson, Miss. However, as of Wednesday, not even Chris Mullin knewexactly what happened. "I was told he was working out in Jackson," was all Mullin had to say.
Some team officials are rumored to believe that Ellis injured the ankle while playing pick-up basketball rather than simply working out.
