The 76ers have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent forward Donyell Marshall on a minimum salary contract, the Daily News has learned. Agent Andy Miller confirmed that Marshall is scheduled to meet with the Sixers tomorrow. It is likely that he will undergo a physical examination and sign a contract within the next few days. Philadelphia Daily News

The Sixers have had interest in Marshall, 35, for many weeks, but bided their time while he remained under contract to Oklahoma City with a salary of more than $5 million. When the franchise that is transplanting from Seattle waived him in a buyout situation, the Sixers - in search of a perimeter shooter - made contact. Philadelphia Daily News

Donyell Marshall, approaching the 15th season of his NBA career as an unrestricted free agent, told agent Andy Miller he wanted to come home. For the 6-9 Marshall, who starred at Reading High in the early 1990s, that meant the 76ers. "I said OK, we'll see if we can get something done," Miller told the Daily News yesterday. "But I also said we should talk about contingencies in case it didn't work out. He said he didn't want to talk about contingencies, that he wanted to hear a yes or a no from the Sixers first." Philadelphia Daily News

Ben Gordon has to be wondering why Isiah Thomas couldn't have lasted a few more months as president of the New York Knicks. Remember, Thomas stepped forward with sign-and-trade offers when ex-Bulls Eddy Curry and Jamal Crawford became restricted free agents but now is no longer in the picture. Arlington Heights Daily Herald

To recap the situation, the Bulls are believed to be offering Gordon a six-year deal worth around $59 million. Gordon's camp is asking for more like $12 million a year, since the 6-foot-2 guard has been the team's leading scorer for the past three seasons. Arlington Heights Daily Herald

Gordon said recently he expects a sign-and-trade to happen, but there hasn't even been a credible rumor floating around to suggest any NBA team is hot on his trail. That doesn't mean a sign-and-trade will never occur, but in this case, no smoke probably means no fire. Arlington Heights Daily Herald

League sources continue to suggest there is little to no action on the Gordon trade market. Because of collective- bargaining rules that make it difficult to trade a player in the first year after signing a larger contract, Gordon could not be traded by himself. More players would have to be involved. Arlington Heights Daily Herald

So even if there is a team willing to meet Gordon's asking price, that team must also be ready to take someone like Larry Hughes or Andres Nocioni in the deal and send some useful players back to the Bulls. Shouldn't be a problem, right? Arlington Heights Daily Herald

The 'dude' audience doesn't typically tune in for Oprah. But they might make an exception upon learning that Kobe Bryant will be on hand for an episode set to air Sept. 8. LA Times

Ben Gordon is seriously reaching. He needs to accept that offer because no team in the NBA is going to give an inconsistent shooter and a decent defender atbest, $12 million a year.
