STAY/GET BACK IN SHAPE VOL 3.0 -- A New Niketalk = A New Thread

After 4 long *** months I found out I have a herniated disc thats pushing on my nerve. Think I got it from bad form doing either leg press or dead lift but just guessing. Anyone have this issue before and what did you do to workout lower back core and upper legs without an insane amount of pain? Also need to decide on steroid injections or surgery. Bummed af.

BUMMMMMMER man! tdogg2k tdogg2k is battling that same issue I believe? He can probably help out

All these DL injury scare stories got me shook. Bout to eliminate them altogether. Deadlift, why can't I quit you?!!

I have and I ended up getting surgery bc it was miserable for so long. Get surgery and get it out of the way. F fighting it forever. Herniations don't ever "heal" in the traditional sense. Text me if you wanna talk about it

Thanks guys ill hit you up if I got questions. Already had knee surgery so want to try and avoid that really, gotta go to a spine specialist next and see what they say.
Worked out with a trainer friend after it started and he said at 6' 6" dead lifting does more harm than good and I should be doing different lifts instead, lesson learned smh.
Gotta get a meal plan figured out either way, deadass fatter than I've ever been.

hey man, Yea it happened to me in Feb. get the injections and work on recovery type stuff. im about 80%. I can't stiff leg deadlift, or reg dead lift withouth pain even til this day. Squatting is getting better, but being injured helped me work on my form.
even running and biking hurt.
Heal up first and work on stretching and yoga.

If you feel the pain, STOP doing what you're doing.
I use to think a little pain meant i was still ok... it doesn't.
work on your posture as well.

the injections and pain pills helped me get in the gym to stretch it out.

Never quitting dl. I just don't max out like that. I'll probably stop at 500 and just work on repping that though. Seen a dude pop his bicep the other day. :x

Two days later he pr'd his back squat  dude is a monster.

Once I maxed at 500, that was it for me  ...still DL, but moreso focus on rep scheme in the 400s.

Man then pause deadlifts ain't no ho. Good lord they had me shaking like a stripper today and I only did 225 and held for 5 seconds.

Workout today was so ****** I just left midway. Maybe because I was racing the clock before the gym closed, but just piss poor focus and execution across the board :smh:

Hell yeah they are hard af. Your whole back is gonna be fried tomorrow.

jjs07 jjs07 yeah I mean I like lifting heavy I'm at 475 now but I feel like 5 plates is respectable for casual lifting and I'm not at too much risk. I don't have any desire to be the strongest dl just strong enough to say I lift big boy weight.

I don't go heavy at all on DL anymore. I messed my back up two years ago on a deployment going for 500 as my PR. I was on track for the thousand pound club and all that got thrown away. It was my fault though. I didn't warm up well enough working my way up because I wanted to keep myself fresh smh. Took me a good while to recover. Fortunately it didn't lead to any lasting damage. I don't go past 375 on DL these days.

you were near 500 lb on your DL yet you still werent in the 1000lb club? your bench and squat must have been real low then... unless im misunderstanding something...

Yea once I hit 1000 club I haven't set any goals to lift more, but that's cuz I've been hooping 80% lifting 20%. I'm thinking of switching that for a couple months though and focusing on weights. So ima start going for pr's :pimp:

Well I never got anyone from the gym to watch me for it to be recorded and placed on the wall in the gym. That's what I meant. I had the numbers.

I'm only at 225 bench and was at 275 squat before my hip flexors began to be a problem. It happens. I just keep working to improve tho

Did you injure your hip flexors? I tweaked one side playing ball I thought about 2 weeks ago. Now the other side hurts too so I'm wondering if it was something lift related or maybe I'm overcompensating. It only hurts when I move suddenly at low intensity, like getting out of a chair, or changing walking directions.

You foam roll for that or just stretch as best you can?
