Surviving On Minimum Wage.

Is it possible? Can you afford to own your apartment/pay mortgage on an apartment maybe, pay bills, gas, food, etc, on minimum wage? Perhaps working two jobs with low pay. 

Anyone here doing it? I just want to move out soon, and two jobs is looking to be my best option. I'm not looking to rent, I just want to save my money with the part time job I have and then put a down payment on a small place.

Cut unnecessary expenses. Map out how much money you're going to spend each month on gas, food, going out etc and budget your money so you can put at least something away every month into a savings account(if you can). Prepare your own meals, look through the paper or online(Publix) to see the current deals. I just saved $16 at the store today, thats 4 gallons of gas. Might not seem like much but that adds up over time. I analyzed my spending and found I spent too much money on food so I cut down on the deliveries and fast food. That made a big difference

A lot of it has to do with self control, you have to realize how important it is to save money. Especially if you don't have a whole lot of it coming in. Do you really need to spend $40 at the club on drinks? Those new Jordans when you just copped those AM95's? 

 no one NEEDS cable....

Especially when you have the internet. When my tv went out I didn't even bother getting a new one.

Of course its possible but not comfortable....if you're LIVING off 7.40/hr, the extras that we take for granted (cable/satellite, contract phones, gym memberships, etc) are gone....but you can offset the gym by working out at a park, you can get unlimited boost plan for 35 bucks, and no one NEEDS cable....

One, literally, lives paycheck to paycheck.

I cannot imagine living like this in 2011.

In places like NY, like others have said, it's impossible.

Stay put OP.

It's tough out here for people who are making a little bit of money, so those on min. wage have to be scrapping by.

You also need to factor in UNEXPECTED EXPENSES: What happens when your car breaks down? Gas prices are constantly fluctuating, how will you cope with the increase?
You miss a payment on ya bills and now you have late fees, how will you pay them??

Additionally, think about all that you're giving up for a little bit of independence--Cable, Internet, Cell phone, Entertainment w/friends/family/significant other--and other little luxuries that may not be included with your apartment (i.e. heat or hot water dep. if it's a gas or electric unit).
