The big 3 just don't get it, nobody wants American cars.

Always had a strong hate for domestics.

How does spelling something wrong when commenting on grammar, in any way, shape, or form, infer sarcasm? You win. Way over my head.

What they don't get it is....
the days of beating people over the head with prices for SUVs and trucks while they collected ill margins, which balanced out the losses they took on eachsmall vehicle sold...those days are over.

Gas may be at last years levels, but the sour taste of 4-dollar-a-gallon gas still resonates on the taste buds of the US. Very few people want thegas-guzzlers.

Now, small vehicles are the only game in town. And these guys never knew how to make those cars both sexy and profitable, or either for that matter.

daily = Japanese/foriegn
weekend = V8 American sportscar or project car
special occasions = old school on 22" asantis with the motor right, interior on point, etc. etc.

Goldman Sachs is on course to pay its top City bankers multimillion-pound bonuses - despite asking the U.S. government for an emergency bail-out.

The struggling Wall Street bank has set aside £7billion for salaries and 2008 year-end bonuses, it emerged yesterday.

Each of the firm's 443 partners is on course to pocket an average Christmas bonus of more than £3million.

corruption at its finest

I say let the big 3 file for bankruptcy. Don't bail them out of anything. When a company puts out inferior products for decades IMO they deserve to fail. The American car companies have not been keeping up with the times or pleasing their consumers hence the rise of import car companies. They just simply failedas a business plain and simple. I do feel bad about people losing their jobs but these guys need a wake up call. Like others have said if Hyundai was able toimprove their image and produce better vehicles then why can't the big 3? I do love Vettes though but that's pretty much the only American car I wouldbuy.

You are right.... and you can blame the unions for the outrageous wages.
And yes these companies need to fail & then reorganize.

That last statement though

Attempt at sarcasm fail.

Their argument that their business's are failing because of the bad economy is so far fetched. If they had paid attention to the change in the times, suchas the need for more fuel efficient cars, they would've easily avoided this. Yet they refuse to accept that their failings are their faults.

I always wondered to myself why these American car companies had all these other smaller companies under one umbrella, while pushing out similar products. Itmakes no sense. Since when has Buick, Saturn, Oldsmobile, Opel, Saab, Lincoln, Mercury etc etc. been relevant?

of the problems uve mentioned, the estimated 25bil isnt supposed to fix any of that, its just supposed to "get them over the hump"momentarily cause theyre JUST having "cashflow problems" - i think according to them, all those problems uve mentioned will be fixed by them afterthey get the cash they need to help them momentarily

analysts are saying that ford is fixable with a little help but that GM is on life support, dont know about chrysler

Import, specifically JDM take pride in their products, there are more 90's and older hondas out there than any other american car

^ que? proof? i think its about even if not more swayed to American because they sold way more cars during the 80s-90s while the JDM cars were still climbing

I read an article somewhere and they basically said that if a bailout was provided, the Big 3 will be back for more money after they use it up like AIG.Basically trying to plug a hole on the Titanic. I don't believe in bailing out corporations that made poor management decisions. While they're not theonly ones at fault, these people were paid large sums of money to keep the businesses profitable. And having watched some clips of the hearings (with these andother CEOs), I never got a sense of accountability... such a shame things turned out this way.

soooo im preetty sure the U.S is trillions of dollars in debt. So where do they plan on finding this 700 billion dollars from? I mean last time i checked, youcan't just go on and print money and create larger dollar bills because that'll cause HUGE inflation (ie. Germany after WWI) and cause greater turmoilin the economy.

They can't anyway.
The Federal Reserve prints money.
