The Combat Jack Show Thread

I've never really been a fan of Wale and never been a hater of his either, I think he's a good rapper but his music is boring, he just never grabbed my attention. I still don't know what he's done to make people hate him so much though.

We live in a era where people forgive and forget rappers for getting exposed and doing all kinds of dumb/corny ****. Drake got a long list of clown behavior and getting exposed but he the connections and stans to make him untouchable. Then you got a lot of these young rappers doing the dumbest **** imaginable and people keep rocking with them. _'s like Kodak and Youngboy are untouchable as far as in their fans eyes.
Nah, they just keep making fire music and some people actually don't care about gossip, media and personas and just want to listen to what appeals to them.

The minute the music stops being quality, things slow down. See Nicki for case in point.

Haven't listened to anything from Wale this year, but based on his previous projects he's not as good at making music as his peers. Anyone who says they'd take Wale's discography over Drake/Cole/Kendrick/Ross is a damn liar or in a very small minority

using the discography comparison doesn't mean the music isn't as good. Drake & Cole fans are insanely biased and I wouldn't trust them to make a fair assessment of music period.
Wale's music is in the shadow of the memory of his character and all the whinin' he's done over the years so he's written off. Then he drops music, it's good but then on his press runs he whines and b****** and moans and people shut him back out. It's like a circle

Ross ain't top tier

BOB?

2 Chainz on the same level as Cole and Drake?

Ross being at top tier may have more to do with his style of rap making what he says come off better than what it is, so I'll concede and drop him down to Great

B.o.B. has dropped some good music. The Upside Down was in my top 10 last year

Cole nor Drake are very lyrical. Cole has the substance but he's very direct with what he says. Of course there's moments when he can do more but mostly it's not that deep. Drake is the same minus the substance. Drake has frequent punchlines that hit but they are usually shadowed by the fun pop song that he drops. Example being Diplomatic Immunity had plenty of bars but God's Plan took off

Quality music is real subjective. Drake's last 2 albums been real generic and mid. Kanye's music has been trash for over 5 years now. They just the right connections to keep pushing them out there and their rapid stans will defend and justify all their corny behavior.

Music is always subjective, you may not like him but Drake undeniably had the most success run of his life last year, dropping hit after hit so it resonated with people. Kanye is just as notorious as an artist, but Ye was garbage and nobody played it. He had the highest anticipation and visibility marketing wise and the music was so poor it never had any legs. The only reason Kanye made it this far was because he put out great music for a decade, buying him benefit of the doubt.

A good example is Game. People hate Game but always respect him musically and check for his projects. They usually do well. People just want to listen to good music for the most part, R Kelly had to have a multi part tv special and indictments to get people to stop playing his stuff strictly because of quality.

It was her poorest debut, and I even heard shows were canceled due to lack of interest in the album.

It's been a major decline

Because the music wasn't good or because her behavior was horrible? Saying it was her poorest debut and it was the #2 album on the charts isn't that big of a negative as you are making it. Nicki was obnoxious and fake actin' during her spat with Cardi and got worse after she couldn't topple Travis Scott album, so her behavior was the issue

Game's last few albums have flopped

Again, you're debating your opinion. Just say you don't like Wale. Fine. But stop speaking for everyone else.

You can't possibly be singing Games praises, but act like Wale is some failure, because he's not on Kendrick and Drake's level.

When did I say Wale is a failure? Only discussing why he's not on their level, which is a fact. He's still a mainstream artist and have nothing against Wale at all aside from not enjoying his music.
You're just saying stuff at this point.

Music is subjective, so having any discussion about quality is rooted in opinion.
Here's a fact though, his music is nowhere near as popular as his peers. There is a much smaller audience that enjoys his music, which he's stated himself. If we're going on facts there's nothing to debate.

No, you're just rambling and not sure what point you're trying to make.

And throwing out random names like Game and Nicki.

You said dude had no classic songs. He has a grammy nominated song. He has platinum songs.

Some of us find him to make better music than his peers.

Again, you need to limit your discussion to YOU not liking Wale, because you aren't even debating facts on him other than him not being as popular as Drake, Cole and Kendrick. When nobody is as popular as them.

A lot of Drakes fans haven't liked his last 2 albums, ain't like he been getting rave reviews. People just been giving him a pass. I'm more of a fan of Drake's music than Wale's but if it's all about quality Wale has been making better projects than him for a few years now. Wale simply doesn't have the connects or extreme fan base like a Drake.

And people ain't switch up on Nicki because of her quality. Nicki is a way better rapper/artist than Cardi.

The industry dealt with Nicki's divaness for YEARS until they had a new "it" girl. if Cardi never popped off it would be Nicki on those Bruno Mars records. They found a new girl where they can get that sassy black women thing from.

yall giving Cyn’s single a chance?

I wonder how much Joe is going to talk about Chris Brown tomorrow.
