Then so what? He's focused on being a great QB. He's not a spokesperson on race relations. Kaep is doing a great job at sparking discussion, why is Cam needed for validation?
That's not the point.

The reason why people are reacting to Cam is because you'd think his stance would reflect the reality that there's a strong under current of racism when it comes to HIS own critics. It wasn't necessarily about co-signing Kaep or throwing him under the bus. He isn't being asked to be a spokesperson on race relations. But his tone reeks of not wanting to "upset the establishment".
I get why people on here are offended by Cam's comments about being oblivious to race relations, but at the same time, why are people so quick to throw a pitchfork at Cam? Who are we to tell him what he should say, especially when he was being respectful to everyone including Kaep? That's why I don't stand for the disrespect towards Cam and Kaep, they spoke their minds in a reasonable manner and they get blasted for not fitting people's agenda. Get that mess out of here you armchair QBs.

I think my breaking point was the KD "you don't want to make an enemy out of me"

like KD should be worried about SAS :lol

That was by far the silliest **** I ever heard regarding sports talk and athletes. :lol

I liked Max better on the radio.. Don't care for most of the sports personalities.. Max, Bomani, lebetard and his pops, Jalen rose. Only ones I watch and care for

Now I'm starting to remember his antics. He's been coming out swinging the past couple of days regarding this issue but that can't save him from all he's done LOL.

Cam stays using words out of context.

:lol it happens to the best of us. Sometimes it just sounds good but it's really not what you meant.

Like you in that very post. "Out of context" sounded good, but you meant that he uses malapropisms when he talks (which is true)

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Nah, I think out of context is more appropriate. It's not like he's just using a similarly sounding word. He just straigh up uses a word that doesn't apply sometimes. He said they had to "exonerate the energy" at one of his pressers :rollin

That's not a malapropism.

Why should Cam be required to be a spokesperson is an interesting point. I remember when Greg Hardy beat his girl she kept quiet and took the money. Everybody was defending her saying she doesn't have to stand up for domestic violence if she doesn't feel like it because you aren't in the same situation as her. Some other girls might stand up and fight it and thats fine too. Wouldnt the same apply here with Cam?

Goff looks like such a wuss. Like, Sanchez flinching lining up at WR wuss.

Man what has been seen can not be unseen.

Always rooted for Goff just because he's a Cal guy but Hard Knocks has exposed him for the Marin County bred charmin soft dude that he is. :lol

He's not a leader. Nobody is gonna follow that man into battle and he don't even seem that bright either.

I've been undecided on his talent as an NFL QB. Somethings I liked, somethings I didn't but I'm calling it now, he's not going to have a successful NFL career. He doesn't have it.

The signs are there.

Horrible comparison.

But no, Cam's not obligated to be a spokesman.

Again...who in here is telling ANYONE what they should say?

The fact of the matter is that his tone as of recent, is somewhat surprising given his history under the microscope as it pertains to race.

He said this in January:
“I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to.”
Fast forward to the GQ interview...his tone begins to shift.

On the topic of public vitriol towards him:
“It’s not racism. Everybody’s entitled to their own opinion.”
“I don’t want this to be about race, because it’s not. It’s not. Like, we’re beyond that. As a nation.”
Read through this article - http://www.gq.com/story/cam-newton-versace-pants-race-and-football

Even the interviewer is bit surprised and taken aback by Cam's stance.
Not saying Cam doesn’t mean what he says here. I couldn’t begin to know that. But I do know that he and his father, Cecil, have said and indicated otherwise as recently as four months ago. In April, after the Super Bowl, Cam gave an interview to Ebony  and got to talking about the hoodie he’d worn during his Super Bowl press conference. He asked them if they would consider taking his photograph wearing a hoodie again. According to the magazine, Newton’s father explained to them why: “The hoodie can represent a lot of things as it pertains to a young Black man. Trayvon Martin. Black Lives Matter. Even as athletics can function as a leverage piece for African-American expression, it still points to the inequities that go on.”

My guess, based on the few public quotes from Cam Newton and his dad on this subject, is that what Cecil told Ebony  is more or less how Cam actually feels. But now, when I bring up this exchange in the magazine, this is what he says: “For what it’s worth, I really wear hoodies. Like, that’s a fact.
This sums up his most recent comments perfectly
“What I can’t fathom is how does 1/8 of an inch, something so small be the difference in such a big commodity in our whole lifetime, and that’s the thickness of our skin,” said Newton. “And under that, we’re all the same color. And that’s the big picture.”

Right. The thing is, the rest of Cam’s answer was like a boilerplate on how to keep white fans happy and piss off all his Black fans who are woke and tired of the okee doke.

“A lot of scrutiny happens when the athletes start talking about race, but the truth of the matter is we just gotta do right by each other,” said Cam. “No matter what color you are. Certain things that has happened in our life, in our lifetime, is kind of embarrassing to be affiliated with, but it still happens. Who am I to say, Colin you’re wrong. And who am I to say, you’re right. We all have the right to think whatever we want to think.”

True, but in controversies like this one, you gotta pick a side, Cam. And we’d all love to do right be each other, but the fact is that being a darker shade makes can make like significantly more difficult. For example, police killing unarmed Black men and not being held accountable, exactly what Kaepernick is protesting.

But don’t worry, trust that the racists will inevitably pick a side for you.

on the other hand, the ginger jesus is a natural born leader :hat

It's just certain issues, I feel obligated to take a stance.

No matter what level of fame I had I wouldn't leave Kaep out to dry like that.

After the Riley Cooper situation (and being accused of being a racist) and now the Colin Kaepernick situation, wonder if Chip Kelly thinks he should have stayed at Oregon?

It was one scene when he was trying g hype up the offense on the sideline n NOBODY was paying attention ...after like a min he even realized it was pointless :lol

Why should Cam be forced to do something he's uncomfortable with? Not everyone is an activist.

Not about being an activist, it's about being aware which he obviously isn't from these comments and the recent ones he made in GQ.

Problem with this is that Cam brought up the impact of race and how ppl viewed him

And now he does a complete 180 in about 5 months

I get why he did it, but you cant knock folks giving him the side eye for that

@iLLoQuent aka DSK summed up the Cam perspective the best in here though

been pretty good in the stuff we have seen (and there have been positives that came out from camp).. showed good movement and avoiding the rush and making smart decisions on the move.. you could see the talent is there even with our lack of WR talent and backup Oline wasn't doing him much favors

did have a bad INT, but that looked like a miscommunication between him and the WR.. wr did a stutter step and then sat, looked like wentz thought he was going cut towards the endzone also had pressure coming up the middle

So unless something happens all the 1st round qbs on the bench to start the season huh ? ...feels like that ain't happen in a min

I think Aaron would be pretty good at this. Kinda felt like he would after the remarks he's been making about the league that I previously mentioned.

If I’m fortunate enough to be around for the next one, I think it could be an opportunity to help out the next generation of players, by taking maybe more of a role in that. If it’s wanted by the union, I would be open to it because I think we need some really strong leaders when we come back to the table, and realize that, as opposed to maybe the last time the CBA rolled around, that we have more bargaining power than we showed.

thought goff was getting thrown to the wolves

didn't really think Pederson's stance was fair to wentz, especially when beat reporters would say that wentz was the best looking QB on a number of days during our camps (a distinction never given to chase Daniel who is ahead of wentz on the depth chart)..

I get trying to protect the guy and trying not to kill his confidence, but our backup oline sucks.. and if a guy earns it, you gotta let him run with it.. moot point now though

and it was always expected with lynch

Personally I woulda started lynch, n Wentz when he's healthy

Goff the only one I think needs to be on the bench

I mean.. to me it depends on how guys do in camp.. I have zero problem bring a guy along slow.. but again depends on the guy

if the guy learns the playbook quick and earns the spot, then give it to them

but with the eagles schedule, if I remember correctly off the top of my head.. you either got to do it early or late.. cause the middle portion of our season is rough

actually I lie.. went and looked it up our really rough patch is 11-14 maybe 15 (@ seahawks, packers, @ bengals, skins and then @ ravens)
