They actually talked about it on the new complex sneaker podcast. It was Nike trying to reduce their green house effect by lower the psi and gases they put in the bubbles. They did it for multiple air maxes.

For some reason I remember the topic being discussed here before, and IIRC it was that the big bubbles were popping. Something about not having the right psi or maybe the mixture or gas inside.
