They did not get rid of JVG for Doc. ESPN got rid of JVG because he had been there for 16 years and they were looking to cut costs as an organization so he was laid off and Doc would/will be a cheaper alternative. It has nothing to do with them thinking Doc is a superior is a color commentator/analyst.

I know this but JVG is easily their best talent in front of a mic. You pay that bill to keep him.
