Vince Carter having his jersey retired by TWO franchises is just wild to me. He quit on the Raptors to the point they took the worst deal possible to get rid of him. I know he was their first star (similar to Shaq in Orlando), but he quit on them. And, congrats on making two conference semis with the Nets in five seasons, and doing literally nothing else.

VC is one of the biggest stars in Toronto history in any sport. Carter also broke a lot of the Nets records like Brook Lopez did. Their franchise has almost nothing to hold on to besides the Jason Kidd and Dr. J eras. You make it seem like they retiring Kyrie or something

You’re totally underestimating what Vince meant to Toronto and before Kiwi the very real idea that they might’ve never got another superstar for decades.

Alonzo Mourning - who had signed with the Nets on a cheap deal because nobody wanted him due to health issues, and they were happy to dump him (waived him three months later)

The Raptors got nothing out of that trade, and the Nets got two non-competitive second round exits. That is the mid 2000s NBA in a nutshell.

His trade value has absolutely NOTHING to do with his impact.

If you have a price in mind that no player should be making you in fact have a scale.
That number should be fluid (or not exist at all) if you consider what others in the industry ABOVE them are making.
I mean I get the number 70 million to play basketball sounds crazy in the wild but people that are their superiors are making insane amounts.
No point in capping what the little man is allowed to make.

I mentioned what he, Vince Carter meant to Toronto as their superstar nba player. Not his trade value or that they couldn’t get equal value in his trade
Hanging up a player’s jersey means a lot and a lot goes into it. The fans and the organization most likely value the positive of Vince’s time there more than the negative that you seem to be focusing on.

I want to say in his documentary he didn’t want to leave Toronto but they were a hot mess at the time. Over time both parties reconciled. What’s wild is statistically he never got better after his 3rd season. His impact on Toronto/Canada basketball is nearly unmatched. We all obviously know how his dunks elevated the NBA literally. Mind blowing stuff.

If you really look at the numbers, Vince pretty much did stagnate after year 3-4. But given his style of play at the time, that’s not surprising.
