The Official NBA Thread: LeBron James signs with the Philadelphia 76ers

At worst, it's a half-assed attempt by an older white coach to find a connection with younger black players. but, you know, it's 2026 and literally everything is triggering now.

Nah, let's say it was 2011 or whenever this happened.

What would be the actual attempted connection that George Karl was trying to make? Did they read the book together? Did he invite them to have book study?

He knew what he was doing

for me, him hitting 3 3s in a row in the 4th quarter of game 7 WCSFs vs Denver Nuggets gotta be up there. He sucked this year, but championship 24-25 season he was clutch

Not wild by any means.

Just means you value money over everything else.
It's a little more complicated than that.

Take someone like JR Smith. Coming from New Orleans, his name was already in the mud. Some of that was his doing and some of that was due to Byron Scott. They didn't get along so the perception of him as a person was already shaky. So he might not have felt he was in the position to speak up without it looking like he was rocking the boat.

Also, these dudes are GROWN grown now and have a different outlook on life so the things that they did back then wouldn't be what they would do had those moments to taken place at this age.

It isn't about the money.

Lastly, you understand power dynamics. George Karl and his Carolina ties run deep in the NBA circles so the dudes simply might not have wanted to be on the first plane flying out of Denver.

So yea, that is a wild take.

ngl I started watching the NBA heavy around 2004-05, and personally from my perspective Bron, Melo, Wade just lapped everyone who was in the league at the time except Kobe. He stayed through the era change. If AI was the face it had to be brief. I’m talking like 1999 to like 2002

AI, Shaq, and Vince was really watered down by the time we got to like 06-07 which was really my start of becoming the prodigy. These guys had short peaks. Relative to today’s stars. Not Shaq though. I forget he was drafted in 1992 sometimes 🤯

That contract will be awesome if he pops a bit more. Showed some signs last year. Only 22.

If he doesn't, will still be solid for a good POA defender.
