You do know I actually meant couch right, like the piece of furniture.
And lets not act all high and mighty because you gave someone a 20 dollar battery you were selling for 45$.

I literally do this every opportunity that I can.
I call it Street Philanthropy. Same basic principles with a slightly different focus.
The last thing I did was on Monday.
I overheard this lady asking this other lady if she knew how to get gum off of clothing, because she was going to a job interview and really wanted to make a good first impression. She goes on to tell the lady how she needs the job because her and her son are staying at the homeless mission, and she needs to get them out of there.
She said how the mission was making them consolidate their belongings down to two bags a piece and everything else had to go.
And also how they used to be more helpful by doing things like handing out bus passes but they stopped doing that.
I could tell that she was being genuine. She never asked the lady for anything other than the advice about the gum.
This whole conversation was happening right around the corner from the bus station, so I went down there and bought her 10 all day bus passes($5 a piece).
I walked up to her and said, " I overheard you talking a little earlier and I wanted to give you this. I handed her the bus passes and $20.
She was completely blindsided. The look on her face was one of pure bewilderment. She couldn't believe I was doing that for her.
She was so happy. She thanked me about 100 times and even asked me if I had a girlfriend because she" needs a good man in her life"
I just told her I was happy I was able to do it and kept it moving.
It is absolutely amazing how great it feels when you are able to help people in need.
I ended up getting that $70 dollars back the very next day, so it wasn't nothing to me, but for her, at that time, it was like she won the lottery.
Who knows, if she gets a job in the next week and a half, I might have helped turn that lady's entire life around.
And in return, she will remember that moment, and may be willing to help someone else when the time comes.
Congrats to all the other posters that have also discovered the joy of giving back or forward. Keep up the good work.

Do this all the time. One of the little kid my son plays with family doesn't really have much money and I always see him admiring my son sneakers. So two days ago I invited him to the mall with us. Got my son some skylander and told the little boy pick whatever sneaker you want from footlocker. Crazy thing is he picked some regular $50 nike basketball sneakers. The look on his face was priceless. People now a days take for granted the things we are blessed with.

Whenever Christmas comes around I make sure to grab some of the paper ornaments that you see on the Christmas trees in the mall or some stores for those in tough situations. When that time of year comes around it is nice to know that I am able to help out a family with a few things that they may need or help kids get that one toy that they want. I am blessed to have the things that I do, and only right to pay it forward and help those in less fortunate situations.

Was walking to Penn Station after work and as I was about to cross the street, I saw a blind kid wagging his stick trying to figure out what direction he was going. Walked with him until I had to make my exit. Shame how many people walked by before he was helped.

I won a contest on NT and got a free video game. I payed it forward and held my own contest and gave away some Cologne. I would've been nice if he kept the chain going but son dipped and never even said thanks.

i got another thing i do
coming to and from college (i catch the bus) if my transfer still has some time on it
instead of tearing it too pieces i put it on my seat or slap it real good on the window so someone can grab it

I bought my neighbors son dunkman and summit lake lebron 9s for doing good in school. Kid was stoked!
