Isn't it a relatively common type of treatment for pro-athletes nowadays?  He had it done on his knee too.

Didn't read the article but doesn't seem fairly common though. In the article that I read about nadal receiving that treatment it did cite pau gasol and a few other athletes receiving that treatment as well.
