The RETRO Gaming Thread!

Anyone excited for Resident Evil 7 next week? I enjoyed it so much. Especially if you like the old games. Highly recommend it!

Surprised to hear it's good. How was re6? I bought re5 years back and it was aight.

Who remembers this?

IMO the first epic true RPG on the NES. I had a few friends who played this alongside me religiously from the spring of 89 until I moved away to Cali in late summer, and we STILL hadn't finished it, LOL. The Ultima franchise has always been one of my favorites. Though Warriors of Destiny on the NES was absolutely putrid. On the whole, I don't think the series gets the credit it deserves next to other franchises like DQ and FF. Perhaps partly because it's been dormant for years.

Long live Lord British! LOL.

pain pain

Maybe my first memory of video games/computer games I have is my older cousin playing Zork.

I definitely remember Zork, it's a classic. I grew up with a slightly older buddy who was an avid 80s PC gamer and he used to tell stories about it. But I was always more of a console gamer because my stepdad never let me use any of the few PCs we had over the years for games. They were only for his work, or schoolwork/reports. My console preferences have continued to this day. LOL.

I thought that too but I guess the ps2 doubles as a PS anyways

Certain iterations of the first generation 'Fat' PS2 actually have the PS1 hardware so they play almost all of the PS1 titles. It looks like the individual has a 'Fat' PS2 in that setup.

i don't know how any collector could settle for that gen2 sega genesis tho...

gotta be gen1 with og ports & stuff! with the red ring around the top

I've got the second model Genesis too. I got all my systems late as a kid. It was cheaper that way. I got a NES when the Genesis and SNES were out. The first system I got fairly new was the PS3 maybe 6 months after it released and then I pre-ordered the PS4 and got it day one.

I understand. But a collector should have the Gen1 version. Collectors spend the money so they should spend the money on that too imo.

Yea me too. Only one I had early as a kid was dreamcast. It was only like 200 I think.

PS1 was ok..I'm not a fan of the graphics at all tho..but I did play street fighter alpha non stop

I'm looking at dreamcasts on eBay..u can get them for a decent price

the fat PS3 is the goat tho

plays ps1, ps2 and ps3 games

Certain early 'Fat' PS3s had the PS2 chips in 'em and they upscaled the games to HD resolutions. Later revisions of the PS3 including the 'Fat' models go with some type of software emulation which reduces overall compatibility.

Video output across all Genesis revisions has been consistent, but there is a Gen 3 model that is universally panned as it has video/compatibility issues and horrid sound.

Gen 1s with the 'High Definition Graphics' labeling are considered the best as they have the best audio chip. Gen 2s had some of the extra (useless) ports stripped from the Gen 1 but also had an inferior audio chip vs. the Gen 1.

Alot of us got Gen 2s as our folks weren't exactly rushing out to buy their kids some overpriced bleeding edge consoles. For those that want the nostalgia of the Gen 2 there's an audio upgrade board that makes it on par with the Gen 1 'High Definition Graphics' version.
