the thread about nothing...

Why did my dentist office try to finesse me into paying almost $400 for mouth guard that I can buy anywhere for maybe a couple of bucks?

Went to my dentist appointment on Wednesday and let them know I was having pain in my lower back jaw on both sides. I said on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being extremely painful it's about a 2. I said it's more annoying than painful.

Dentist tells me it's inflammation from due to me grinding my teeth and night and she suggested a mouth guard. I asked what brand she would recommend.

Her response was well you would want a custom fitted mouth guard and we take some scans and have the guard back to you in about a week. She was really trying to sell this "custom" mouth guard.

I asked how much through insurance? She said $512 but she'll hook me and do it for $350.

She showed me a sample of this mouth guard. That thang look just like the mouthguards we had when we played sports as kids.

I told them I would think about. I went on Amazon and bought a 16 pack for $12. It might not be as good as the nearly $400 but the difference in effectiveness wont be $400.
My son had the same problem a few months back. Doctor prescribed him amoxicillin and told him he needs to cut down on sugary foods for the next week. Followed the doctor’s orders, haven’t had a problem since.
